Is there a setting in the GPS which shows your current speed rather than the speed limit? We've just had the GPS updated and I thought it might be in there somewhere.

No - it's not there.  You will need to check the accuracy of your speedometer if you want to know your exact speed.

I checked my speedometer by comparing it with my Garmin Satnav and determined it was almost 10% fast.

A bit off topic but would it be fair to assume that the odometer reading is  the distance used by the computer to calculate fuel consumption?

Using several sat navs over recent months recently it seems my odometer reads about 3.5% less than the sat navs and marker posts on motorways.  That being so  the indicated fuel consumption will be 3.5% worse and my 'brim to brim' calculations also need correcting by that amount.  Even so I cannot get my calculations to agree with the car computer figures.

I have posted here several times about the need to check odometer accuracy before manually calculating fuel economy figures.

I checked my odometer by comparing it with the Kilometre distance boards on the M5 motorway over a distance of about 120 miles. It is 2.2% pessimistic.
For example - when the odometer says I have done 100 miles - the car has actually done 102.2 miles.

I am such an anorak that I have carried out the long distance test with all tyres at 32 psi and again at 36 psi and have found no discernable difference.

Being 'an anorak' - now there is a term we don't hear much out this way.   :)

In British slang an anorak /ˈænəræk/ is a person who has a very strong interest, perhaps obsessive, in niche subjects. This interest may be unacknowledged or not understood by the general public. The term is sometimes used synonymously with geek or nerd, or the Japanese term otaku, albeit referring to different niches.

Thanks - I was quite aware of term :D

It is interesting how some slang spreads to certain countries and others don't.   This is one that is rarely heard over here.
