Wondering if anyone has tried or changed there radio antenna for a shark fin type antenna.

Doesn't it need to be functioning or just a dummy? If functioning are they car specific?

There's at least one thread here where someone has done this. It looks quite small but I guess adequate. More importantly, the mounting appears to match the original spiral dipole, so a direct replacement is likely without any modification. Questions I would ask is whether the cable is long enough. For that price, is there really an amplifier built in?

I wouldn't expect any decent performance from an aerial like that unless it was specifically matched to the head unit with an appropriate amplifier circuit. What's wrong with the current one
