Hi all,

I am taking my Hyundai i30 2012 for it's service.

The warranty expired on 30/9/15 so will I still qualify for the fixed-price service?

What type of repairs and costs will I expect at 40K as I don not want to get ripped off like last time with my previous Toyota Corolla?

Thanks

Sorry - your warranty expired?  You might want to check that - you might be surprised!   In case you aren't aware Hyundai has a 5-year/Unlimited km OEM/Factory warranty in Australia - subject to conditions, and (to the bast of my knowledge) it isn't limited to first owner. Of course you might already be aware and know you are not covered for one reason or another.

Given you are getting it serviced at 40K (which isn't a distance interval), are you taking it for the 36month service? As you are asking about the fixed-price I am assuming you are using a Hyundai (or Hyundai Authorised) Service Centre.

So I am sought of thinking you might be talking about the QLD 90-day statutory used car warranty when brought from any licensed dealer - being 30th Sept. is ~90 days after your first post (which I assume was soon after your purchase).   The statutory warranty has to be given - but doesn't invalidate others.   However as the Factory warranty is subject to conditions - it is, of course, possible you only had the statutory warranty (and if brought as private motor vehicle why the factory warranty was mentioned if got from a Hyundai dealer).

If you weren't aware of the factory warranty:
  • I would check your log-book (assuming you got one) - for the required services being done (time or distance - which ever comes first) - and also check with Hyundai iCare (or with a local Hyundai Service Center) as they should be able to tell via. your VIN number - what services the i30 has had.   If it has had it's previous services (and they are valid) at the right points then it shouldn't be due until either 45K or 48 months - the sticking point would be was/is 36month service done on/near time?
  • I would be sure to explain you brought it second hand, when and that you only now found out now there might be factory warranty left, and you wanted to check.   If it missed a time interval based service around the time, or since you brought it, they might do the 'good will' thing and let the warranty continue as long as the service is done ASAP) - but that would be entirely up to them.  Of course that assumes it hasn't missed any others - also I am assuming a 3yo car with 40K on the clock would have been hitting service by time interval (schedule says 24month/30K; 36month/45K; 48month/60K).

More detail on the factory warranty:

Australia Hyundai, at least for the i30, have a 5-year/Unlimited KM warranty - for private owners, regardless of the number of owners1.  Various things are excluded after shorter times - e.g. external trim/paint 24months, radio/entertainment 36months, etc..   It only remains valid if a) the stated service intervals (time or distance - which ever comes first) are done; b) in compliance with work stated for each specific service; and c) with genuine OEM parts and stated consumables.   If done at a Hyundai (or Hyundai Authorised) Service Centre - then (as far as I know) Hyundai should have record of it.  If not then you need to provide evidence of each service complying - e.g. itemised invoice showing actions carried out (inspect blah; replace foo), OEM parts and consumables used.

1 If I remember correctly the service book says they have to agree in writing for each subsequent owner - but it provides a number of 'change of owner' tear off forms. So I suspect it is a 'just in case' (e.g. trouble maker) wording - that in most cases they will just acknowledge the new ownership and confirm warranty continues.

In any case, if I remember correctly fixed price is independent of warranty, see: :link: Get a Service Quote - Hyundai Australia

It will ask for a number of details of your car and based on time or distance recommend the next service and show the cost of it (also proceeding and future service).  Note if an 'Inspect' item requires work or replacement, and it isn't a warranty issue, then cost will be additional - e.g. a dirty 'cabin air filter' (evaporator pollen filter) replacement - however they should check before proceeding.

Based on your first post stating it is 2012 i30 Elite 1.8 petrol - I was able enter the details as 2012 i30 GD H-BACK 1.8 petrol... but didn't know 1st Registration date (which may affect time interval recommended) or if it was manual or auto.   Assuming a 1 July (mid year) 2012 registration it recommends the 36month/45K service giving a price of $340 (for either manual or auto for this service) - note you can click on 'title' bar of a service which display the details and give a print button (which will give a simple printable list with cost).

What a comprehensive response ibrokeit!!! Thank you so much.

Sorry I made a mistake. The warranty is valid until 30/9/17 however fixed price servicing ended 30/9/15.

The reason why I'm asking is because I had a bad wrap with Mechanics.

Thanks for the link! I'll give them a call today and arrange a time :).

Ahh - okay.  Cool.

So I am assuming it had it's 24month service, and is now slightly overdue for it's 36month service.

Anyway that is my understanding of how 'service quotes' work.

Neat - I would.  Always useful to keep such a factory warranty valid.

The capped price conditions which commenced August 1, 2012 state the following:

Customers can have Scheduled Maintenance Services performed on an eligible vehicle at the Hyundai iCare Capped Price within the following “servicing windows”.

Passenger, SUV & Light Commercials

So, going by that it would seem you should have no issue getting your capped price service, even if you are a little late, time wise....   :)

Yup it has always been serviced at a Hyundai dealership. $340 just for a service seems pretty high but oh well, better than it costing me more if I take it to a doggy machanic :D.

I love everything about the car, but the automatic eats so much petrol, registering 9.5L/100km :blubber:.

Thanks again ibrokeit, your help is much appreciated  :goodjob2: :goodjob2: :goodjob2:

If you got charged $340 for one of the 3 capped price services then you were ripped off!
The correct charge (for a petrol i30) should have been $219....   :Pout:

The $340 is what Hyundai Australia's online :link: Get a Service Quote - Hyundai Australia tool says for 36m/45K service (which I am assuming is the appropriate service).

If KZTT can get the capped price service at a better price they should go for it!   I think in the following thread someone pointed out you might need to query it because it wasn't managed well.

I think this thread discusses the services some more - :link: Hyundai Capped/Fixed Priced Servicing (Australia)

My 2L Petrol 4-spd auto eats about that - however it might not now (just had valve body replaced under warranty - just being it is a 2010 i30).

BTW Thanks for the thanks  :D

Ah, thought he'd actually paid that, thanks for the correction...  :goodjob:
Still, if his car was eligible for the fixed price servicing when the car was purchased in 2012, he should still be able to get this final one for $219...  :)

Eggs Zachery!

Question is will be a) is it? and b) if KZTT doesn't know - will asking about it be enough to get them to check and give it (if applicable).

KZTT said the fixed price servicing finished on 30/09/2015 so, (and I'm assuming here) he purchased his car on the 30/09/2012....Given that there is the "service window" I posted up earlier, there would appear to be no reason why Hyundai should charge him any more than $219.....

Anyways...here's hoping....  :D

Yup, your are right about what he said re fixed price - good to hope.   :D

I would assume someone did, but KZTT says in their first forum post it is second hand - :link: 2012 i30 Elite Fuel Consumption - Petrol 1.8ltr

Hmm, so he did...  :undecided:
Shouldn't matter though as the fixed price servicing is transferable... :goodjob:

I think he might be a she.   ;)

Thanks for the reminder - I have been careful not to be saying he... even though rustynutz kept saying it.

Then I managed to stuff up - thanks rustynutz  :D

I try to be careful with things like that - knowing an older teen who is a 'they' not a he or she.  And another who uses the opposite gender.
