Has any one had their pollen filter changed?

My wife took our 2008 i30 with 23000km to the dealer complaning that the air flow from the vents was a bit low.
They changed the Pollen filter for $90, parts and labour. The air flow is back to normal now.

The serviceman said it should last for 2 years.
I suppose it will depend on your local environment as to what airborne particles are trapped in there causing a partial blockage.

Where is the pollen filter located, is it easy to access?

Gotta say I love my i30.

The pollen filters there are two and they are located behind the glovebox once you drop the glovebox down there is a little panel you remove and they are right there. would take about 15 to 20 mins to change.
Price sounds about right.

Cheers

Would this be something that can be cleaned and replaced?

Had mine changed at the 2year service.
It is a 2 part filter and I think it was £10 GBP.

It is behind the passenger glove box.

I have checked mine and took no longer than 10 minutes to access and replace.

You need to "drop" the glove box which can be a fiddly thing to do as you have to push in and slide the grommets.
Location and how to access is detailed in the Handbook.

Sounds like I'll be buying one and doing it myself (or if I feel really tight might just pull it out give it a vacuum and put it back in    :D)

When I looked at my old one before it went in for the service, it was full of cr*p and the fins really really dirty.
I was surprised as I hardly use the air con.

I suppose you could vacuum and then wash to remove reside making sure it is bone dry before you replace.
If it works - great, if it doesn't then nothing lost as you would have replaced anyway.

If it's only say A$20 I will just buy one and put it in myself.. otherwise I will try to clean and reuse (but probably not a good idea)  :-[

This one cost $70 more than you quote, so has he been over charged?

I think the price breakdown was around $60 for the filter - $30 labour.

I just blow them out with compressed air at work.... We only replace them if they are dirty after we blow em out....

But for a $20 filter i wouldnt bother blowing it out in my own car

I was a bit surprised at the price as well, but the job was done, ... the upside is the car was fixed = happy wife.

I was told by the salesman that the Dealers make their money from the service dept, they do not make a great deal from new car sales.

In future I will do it myself I wonder if there are aftermarket filters available?

I priced the filter locally and after 10 minutes of hunting the parts guy who was very helpful came back with around A$84 which he thought was dear as Commodore which they also sell is only around $50..

They have 4 outlets around Tasmania but didn't have any in stock. He said they had only sold 1 so far via their head office in Hobart!

So that US $ price looks pretty good even with freight...Might pull mine out and give it a vacuum...
