Dear Members, can anyone tell where the oil filter is located and whether it is a canister or paper filter.
Thank You,
Raymondo

whether it is a canister or paper filter.
Same thing, it's a paper/synthetic filter media contained within a canister.

Not sure exactly where the oil filter is on a 1.4ltr but you'll need to get underneath to remove it and it will be easily visible once you're under there.

On a 1.4 petrol if you look down the gap between the coolant expansion tank and the engine, you may be able to see it.

If not, using a camera (with flash on) you should be able to locate it by placing your arm into the gap and taking some photos.

Is this curiosity on your part, or are you planning a DIY oil change?

Dear Member,  thank you for your reply to my question regarding the location of the oil filter. I will check your advice tomorrow,  but having looked all over the engine from the top with my neighbour, we were unable to find it and assumed it is a canister type located under the engine. The reason I am looking for the oil filter is that I have recently purchased this i30 from Motorpoint Widnes,  who carried the first intrim service for me, but the local Hyundai dealer said that if the oil filter is not a genuine Hyundai filter the warranty is void, as such I intend to have another service carried out on the car with recommend Shell oil and Hyundai filter, however, in my opinion this is a terrible waste of new oil and filter
 Best wishes,
Raymond. (hope I have replied in the correctly, as this is my first time on such a forum)

Hi Raymond

The dealership is talking nonsense - a vehicle can be serviced anywhere with the warranty unaffected, provided the garage is VAT registered and equivalent quality parts are used.

Not all Hyundai dealerships use Shell oil - if you look at the manual it lists a variety of oil brands that are compatible. Shambles had a service carried out on his i30 and Total branded oil was used (link).

I'd keep things simple and let Motorpoint do the legwork at this stage - tell them what you've been told and say you're unhappy that you've been sold a car with a warranty that you've been told is void because Motorpoint didn't use genuine parts. Say that the dealership says you need an interim service to reinstate the warranty and that you expect them to meet the cost as the vehicle you've bought is not as described, or you'll reject the vehicle for a refund (you have 30 days to do this from the date of purchase).

No doubt Motorpoint will quickly obtain confirmation for you that the warranty is in fact valid. If they try to fob you off, then a formal complaint should be made: :link: Motorpoint - Customer Care

How old is the vehicle? At 1 year old, an anti-perforation body inspection needs to be done (link).
