Hey All,

I know i30 club, still on Hyundai Topic however.

Looking at going the Tucson Elite.
Today I went to two separate and unlinked dealerships. Lets call them A & B.

A: (Sales Rep) He asked me what I wanted, I told him everything in the Elite but really disappointed that it didn't have leather and only fabric, considering its just below highlander. I was asking what some of the differences are between the Active X and Elite.
He questioned me on what I really wanted. I told him, he said follow me for a moment.
We go inside to his desk as he remembered an email he got yesterday (Friday), which was a Hyundai brochure with some feature changes and NEW colours!!!

Which was advising that the 2.0L petrol 2WD Elite will be getting Leather seats, optional panoramic sunroof (woohoo!), but will loose a few small things - ESS braking, Auto down/up function on window and a few other small things. However they didn't have the Active X in at all to test drive for the engine - buggar, not a hassle though - there is a dealer close to home I can check with.
This email from Hyundai stated they went into production in JANUARY 2016, so he was guessing they would start arriving soon as in next 4ish weeks!
Gave him my details and thanked him for not selling me the current model with Fabric Seats, knowing I really wanted leather. Fantastic customer service. He could have just ignored the whole leather thing and sold me the one with Fabric for the sale.

B: Place I got my car (2014 Hyundai i30 Active GD3 S2 MY 16). Two days in a row I visited them - If you haven't already test drive the new Elantra Elite amazing!!!
Anyways off topic.
I knew what Dealer A had told me but held back.

(Sales Manager) I said that I was really looking at the Elite but disappointed that they didn't have leather, not wanting to go up to Highlander (budget issues) but also not wanting to go down Active X due to loosing some features I wanted. - Perfect opportunity for this dealer (B) to tell me about the new production and change. Instead he goes ah hang on I got this email yesterday... Opens it - Excel spreadsheet showing many cars and locations stating that these 74 cars in QLD, being Tucson Elite are unable to be produced due to production issues and will not be made at all. Nothing like what I was expecting at all!!!
Tries to sell me a 2015 Build Elite for $600 more than Hyundai's website stating ah Hyundai Australia must have the calculations WRONG!! LIKE WHAT!!
So STRIKE 2!
I asked about 2016 production and if any idea when it would be shipped, he said ah maybe 4-6 months away!
So I ended up getting there prices, left to "think about it".

So at this point i'm a tad confused, frustrated and not sure who to believe. So i've now called Dealer A (sales REP) asking about this 74 QLD cars not going ahead with production, he said it's a load of bullshit and the other people (sales MANAGER) are just trying to sell the old stock! He said either the other people have either not read the update or not caring about customer service and offloading old stock.
Well at this point am I to agree with Dealer A as I seen an official document. Only downside they are over an hour from where I live. But i'm sure he now has MY business just for honesty and customer service!!

If you hold fire for a while wait and see who follows up by contacting you and what they then offer.

Unfortunately sales is what they are after and may be B need to off load before they can order new stock.

Take your time and you will get what you want..

I'm thinking waiting for the new 2016 production....

B: Did offer me the Highlander model for 47k, but as a demo thats been on road 2 months with rego plates (did a rego check).

Dealer B; charges a Dealer Delivery fee of $2595 (no matter the car) which I think is unrealistic for a Demo model that only needs to be washed and put into my name. Looked at some paperwork from 2011 when I got my old Holden Cruze and they charged $1,500 - surly it hasn't gone up that much in such a small time....

My i30 is all good.
When I got it, I had to get something cheap and an auto ASAP due to medical reasons.
I can now get the car I wanted originally, so no time constraint at all :D

The update thing from Hyundai that Dealer A had was for ALL cars not just the Tucson! But there was some interesting changes in all cars about to reach the country.

Why would dealer A tell you that leather was on the way, if he didn't honestly believe it was?

I would hold off for a while personally, go and see stealer c and see what their answer is, or contact Hyundai on Facebook and see what they say, after all if they are on the way, they have no reason not to tell you. From memory the media were somewhat puzzled by their omission, so there is a fair chance they made the change.

My sister in law just picked up her new Active-x Manual the other week. She loves it.

I got the job of detailing her old Tucson.....2 days of solid work....I thought the hard work was done when I polished the outside...... :head_butt:

You could always try to do a deal on the new ones. If they are that close, Dealer A should be able to secure one.

So just a little update.

Dealer A - as yet no call, but also been checking all dealers in the Sunshine Coast / Brisbane vicinity no 2016 builds around yet.

Dealer B - Got his nickers in a huge knot! - Why you ask, well this is where Dealer C comes into it.
When I asked about the whole "Elite" thing, he also offered me his "demo" 2015 Tucson Highlander 2.0L AWD Diesel for $48,000 - was not keen on that $$ at all. It also has above 2,000 kms on the clock.

Dealer C you say- 2015 Tucson Highlander 2.0L AWD Diesel $43,990 drive away!!!! Made a mistake on the add, bad for them brilliant for me. This car is a DEMO (not my favourite word), but ONLY has 137 kms on the clock, was registered in February however. So before I put the deposit down I asked a million questions, got a million photo's, had a bunch of phone calls and emails... Then I just couldn't refuse at such a good offer!

So Knickers in a knot you say, how did this occur?
I emailed Dealer B on the Monday, in relation to Dealer C's brilliant offer; asking if he could match the price, what was the kms on his car. He replied saying he could not approve this pricing but would speak with the owner.
I then called him about an hour later, he said the owner will match it plus $400 for the floor mats and tint on the front 2 windows - never asked for this, and his car has about 2,000 kms on the clock. He mentioned that this other dealer could not be making any money and must be selling me the 1.6l turbo petrol etc etc, I told him I would think about it, talk to the other dealer (C) and get back to him.
After deliberation overnight, I ended up putting a deposit on the one from Dealer C.

I emailed Dealer B thanked him for his time and advised him I had taken Dealer C's offer. DAMN! Never again! - Unfortunately have to get my car serviced at Dealer B :(
He emailed back all upset that he didn't have a chance to find something that would suit "my" needs and customer service lost out...
I emailed back a counter offer, of $40,500 for his demo, or find me the Highlander for $43,990 no tint/mats in either Grey or Red.
He didn't appreciate my thoughts on pricing of his demo, pretty much flew off the wall - Steam coming out ears and all from his writing.
Something about no possible way he can take 4k off a demo car, all dealers are given the same demo bonus from Hyundai etc etc. Oh and wouldn't I be better off buying local, better support etc etc... But would see what he could come up with.
He emailed about 6 hours later with a brand new one for 45k in Grey, wanted to know my thoughts and then he would "see" if he could get the "owners" approval.
When he came back with this. I drove to another dealer (I have 2 within 10-15min of my house, both owned by Dealer B) they had both colours, I stood there and deliberated the colours for ages and came back at the Red. I've liked the red from when they got released so I kept going back to that colour.
I emailed the dealer again, advised him that I appreciated all the effort and thanked for all his time but I would not be purchasing the car from him at this time, however no matter where I purchased the car from it would still get serviced at his dealership....
I've not heard a word since.

I get my Highlander this Saturday!!! I'm currently without a car - i30 sold privately, and forgot how much dependance having a car brings a person!!

Sorry for the long post

Well done not to be sucked in by B.

By the way..... can you explain B's use of the words ..... get owners approval?

Was the car not being solds by the garage but he was acting as a broker for 3rd party?

They would be talking Owner of the dealership Lester AKA the Dealer Principal ...

Congrats Kerston. Buying cars is supposed to be an exciting and fun experience, but often isn't if you wheel and deal.  :disapp:

Dealer B was a sales manager, he had to talk to the principal to get approval on matching the pricing.

Yeah, I had a bunch of fun getting the pricing.
Dealers never make it a lot of fun with pricing.

But bring on Saturday I want my wheels back!!

I Picked it up today.... Yet to find a name.
Loving it so much! It's an absolute dream to drive. Being Diesel a bit different to drive but still a dream.
Only negatives so far, no drivers seat memory function (Santa Fe has this) and mirror dipping when in reverse (Santa Fe has this). My mum has the new 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Elite - thats also a breeze to drive.

With the accident on the Bruce Hwy today on my way home, I got great use of the sunroof fully opened whilst sitting in stand still traffic.

Will post photo's soonish. The website always hates the sizing that I use (direct from my iPhone)  :'(

Just quietly you don't "have" to get your car serviced at any dealer.

If you can find a good private mechanic to do the scheduled service (you will save money too), Hyundai have to honour their warranty.

They will give you a bit of attitude, but I always throw back 'supporting the little guy', Cheaper service from qualified mechanic not second year apprentice, cheaper spares online, the choice of my own brand of oil and that he always washes and vacuums my car after a service (oh and I can call in if I blow a head/tail/brake light and he replaces it immediately and for free)  and they are too lazy to try to win my business.

Oh and he is a short walk from home, and it's always an effort to get to a dealer.

Hey All,

As discussed I now have a Tucson Highlander AWD Diesel.
I am loving the panoramic sunroof! There was a traffic accident on the Bruce HWY from Brisbane to Sunny Coast, at a standstill. I opened up the sunroof and enjoyed the ability to do so.

Only negatives so far, no drivers seat memory function (Santa Fe has this) and mirror dipping when in reverse (Santa Fe has this). My mum has the new 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe Elite - thats also a breeze to drive.

I turned off the rear wiper going when put in reverse, not a fan of that.
Lane Keep Assist, still trying to get used to this function. The beeping drives me insane. The slight pulling of the wheel to keep in the lane is a bit odd.

My mum did point out that once having all these features I will never be able to go back to a basic car. Evil women that one if you ask me!

But I will keep everyone updated :D

Thanks for the update Kerston. My Calais has lane departure warning (no steering assist) I turn it off - too annoying.  :fum:

I like the blind spot monitoring, cross traffic alert and mirror dipping in reverse though.  :goodjob:

You do get used to the features (I like auto wipers a lot)  :happydance:

I love the auto wipers on the front window. 100% against the rear one going when putting into reverse, hence why I turned the rear one off.
I love having auto headlights again, missed that function so much. My i30 didn't have it :(

The auto dipping mirror is something I wish the Highlander had but for some silly reason doesn't :(
But my mums Santa Fe elite does.

Love the blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert is ok I have to reverse out my driveway so beeps every time - I live in a busy street.

I'm old school, even though I have auto headlights in the i40, I switch my headlights on and off myself....

Guess it goes back to blowing headlight globes in my old CW.....Though I do think it is silly when you see headlights go on/off when you go through a small tunnel, but that's just me I guess....
