In less than a decade's time you might not be able to buy anything but an electric car in the Netherlands.

That's because a new ruling to ban the sale of petrol and diesel cars in the country from 2025 onwards has received initial support from Dutch politicians this week.

The restriction, a proposal by the Dutch Labour Party (PvdA), gained backing from those in the lower house of parliament and could become law if approved by the nation's senate.

On initial introduction, the law would allow anyone who already owns a petrol or diesel car to continue using it on the road.

However, you won't be able to purchase a brand new car unless it is electric or a hydrogen fuel-cell model.

They could easily ban that practice.....

Seems an Ironic move from what I thought was the original home of the Shell Oil Company.

It is that.
We flew over there in 2000. The Shell depot stretched forever.

I didn't know that. I knew they had tied themselves up with Siemens for solar panel development. I thought their big thing was biomass development.

And BP was very active in Australia a decade or more ago in solar power development.
Lack of government support killed off both BP and UNSW projects.
