I realize that here in the UK because of the salted roads in the winter - vehicles seem to rot rather fast.

Been looking to purchase a reasonable quality 2012-2014 i30 Tourer for a while and in the process have viewed probably about a dozen (from Southampton to Guildford to Stevenage to Cardiff).

What I've been quite surprised about is the amount & level of corrosion and pitting found within the engine bay of the majority of the vehicles I've viewed especially vehicles that are under 5 years old.  Previously - I had a 14 year old Astra which was still like new.

Example (2013 Reg13 Hyundai I30 1.6 CRDi Blue Drive Active 5dr (ISG) @ 39k miles)

What are people finding with regards to their own vehicles?

What do people do to slow down or to delay the development of corrosion within the engine bay?

Give the engine/bay a spray with WD40 once every couple of months and it'll be fine :)

Wouldn't worry about it.

If you had a 14 y/o Astra without rust, you've been extremely lucky...  :scared:
