I saw an old thread about fitting the OEM spolier, and it looks easy to fit, but I have a question, what is the guy in the pictures doing with the tube of something (glue, sealer?) and the folded bit of card in the photos? is it just to seal the leading edge?

http://www.koreancarstyling.co.uk/Hyundai/i30/Spoilers/i30MobisSpoiler.htm

Anyone in the UK bought the OEM spoiler from them or know anywhere cheaper than £175 for a pre-painted spoiler delivered?

Thanks.
Lorian.

Lorian, i would imagine he is doing that to stop glue spreading.
i think the i30 spoilers look ok but i know think the car looks more classy without a spoiler. they make me think of those old Honda Jazz, i just did not like the look of those Jazz.
i think if the surface is clean dry & oil free, silastic would bond it, i have seen a guy use silastic to replace a damaged roof on a car then paint over and you would never know was not welded on. was still on the car 5 years later.

The tube is to seal around the bare metal after drilling to help stop it rusting. (Or you could re-paint the bare metal, if you choose)

The folded out card is a template to help align where to drill the three mounting holes in the hatch.

The rear spoiler is held on by three bolts, and helped by double sided tape along the leading edge of the spoiler. I really wouldn't trust the tape alone on a body part that has some down force applied to it when driving at speed.

He seems to be apply stuff from the tube to the leading edge though, after the spoiler has been fitted

the data sheet [thats no longer on this site] that shows how to fit an original spoiler didn't use glue or double sided tape, just 3 screws along the top.i wish i had downloaded them now.it also showed side skirt fitting, screws at the ends and tape along the top and bottom of the sill.

He is using a sealent as others have said to stop the water being trapped behind the spoiler. The folded card is to give it a nice even flat finish (better than using your finger !)and removes the excess sealent.

Shark Racing have one for 240USD (about £150) but you could get stung for import tax so your KCS link is probably the best bet.
