My wifes passenger side door interior cable snapped so I took the door trim and started taking the rest of the door assembly off to replace the cable but typical British weather it started to rain before I finished so I quickly popped it all back together plugging all the electrical components back in again before shutting the door and locking the car to come back to it today.

Today I've come back to the car and the remote key fob didn't unlock the car. So I unlocked it manually and turned on the ignition and only the ABS and Brake warning lights come on and if I try to start the car nothing happens not even an attempt to start. Also nothing else electrical works radio, windows and I can't open any doors other than the drivers side.

This made me think maybe something has drained the battery so I tried to jump start but again only the ABS and Brake warning lights come on. If I take the handbrake off the brake warning light stays on.

I'm stumped I don't know whether it is something with the battery or if I've blown the ECU. Has anyone seen something similar or got any suggestions?

Sorry for the long post but this has got me stumped. I'm still inclined to replace\charge the battery overnight and see if it does anything but I think it may all be in vain.

It could be that in your hurry you got wires crossed or trapped somewhere and there is an earth fault

If you find a way to open the passenger door manually - remove the passenger door card and disconnect all the electrics you hurriedly stuck back together as a first action.

Now put back the battery you have charged overnight and see if things are any better.

If you can't open the door - I'm not sure what you can do.

Thanks. I wanted to do this but I can't open the door and the trim will only come off (in one piece) with the door open  :fum:

I'll try charging the battery and see if it does anything.

:crazy1: Let's hope it is just the battery, but Alan's scenario is the most likely one. So the passenger door won't even unlock from inside!!  :undecided:

Yeah I thought it was all ok as everything worked straight after I put it back together and even when I shut the door I successfully locked the car using the remote, however the only logical thing is as you both say is nipping a cable when I put it back together.

Trying to source a battery charger to give the battery a good charge overnight and see if that does anything.

Unfortunately I can only open the drivers door all other doors won't unlock manually from the inside as they appear to have been deadlocked by the alarm system

Sounds like the battery has gone flat. Why? I have no idea.
The reason you can't unlock the passenger door from the inside is because when you locked it by remote it activated the deadlock and because there is no key hole you can't over ride it like the drivers door.
Definately get the battery on charge when you can and hopefully it is a simple result.

If you really have done something that would drain the battery overnight, you're probably better off charging the battery while isolated from the rest of the car's system, meaning one of your posts (preferably the positive) is unclamped for the time you charge it, then be quick about using it to unlock before it's drained again.

To drain a high capacity battery would create some heat & smoke. Check the engine bay and your door

I've taken the battery out and popped it on an overnight charge so I will see what happens.

No smoke or anything burning under the bonnet or door.

I'll see what happens after a 12 hour charge.

Well I charged the battery and everything is back to life fortunately. I'm going to keep it unlocked and see what happens today and overnight to see if it drains again (as I don't have time to look at it in the meantime).

Thanks everyone for their suggestions!
