Hey Dazz, well mate you got the tourist trade to think of.
here in Sydney it has not effected tourist trade or population, or the amount of people useing the toll ways. so they keep raising the toll. i think back in 2000 we had about 10million population in sydney. then we had the Olympics, now in 2010 i think we have closer to 20million. they said the other day sydney has 16.5 million cars & i forget how many k's we travel a day just in Sydney.
but if you don't like it you just drive 300k out and its still quiet on the roads and no toll's.
that is the beauty of Australia. all new arrivals seem to stick to the coast and the city's. go inland and its still the same old Aussie.
but for how long? i can see country towns growing fast too.
cheers

I hate to say this, but there is no way in hell there are 10 million people living in Sydney. In fact, a quick wiki search (because Wiki knows everything   ) indicates Sydney's population is closer to 4.5 million...

And the total approximate Australian population is 22 million.

gee i wouldn't have thought it would have worked in the cubby hole. last trip to brissy i had held it up in my hand the few times i went through the tolls. one pass it was fine, second pass it didn't beep! third pass it was fine again.
friend said if i had accidently covered over a certain spot with my thumb or similar it wouldn't have picked up the signal on my second pass, so i thought the signal must have fairly weak or something.

may have to give it a try, but i'll be keeping my gps in the cubby to so they may conflict with each other as well. we'll see :)

thanks for the tip

i,m just going off RTA figures, they say 16.5 million cars registered in sydney.  i know that does not mean population but, there is 16.5 million cars registered.

I have mine mounted behind the rear view mirror so I can't even see it in the drivers seat............

I'm guessing this is more for the aesthetics of looking from the outside in.............

Here on Merseyside to get from 1 side of the River Mersey to the other you can used 1 of the 2 under the river road tunnels.

Of course there is a charge but you can buy a prepaid "Fast Tag"

Lakes, I'm stumped.
Where are you getting your figures.
My RTA link says 4.5 million motorised vehicles in all of NSW in 2009 (up about 200,000 on 2008 figures).
Sorry, I'm only interested in this because I used to use these figures to calculate potential tyre replacement numbers for NSW and Australia when I worked for Goodyear and I couldn't work out how they got from just under 4 mil in 2003 when I last looked to your 16 mil. So I just rechecked my links and came up with 4.5 as at end of 2009 (prov).

I like the idea of using the dash top box for storing an e-tag (or a GPS) but can anyone tell me how much the heat build up in there is likely to affect them?
I use it for a neat little pair of binoculars at present.

The link I am using is the current RTA figures.
Don't know what was in the paper but the RTA web site is now.
And no way can you have 16.5 million cars in Sydney. Not feasible.

When in Melbourne for a quick 3 day visit in early November last year we rented a car but used our own GPS when we told budget where we were going they suggested we get a day pass but our GPS avoided all the toll roads...

that happened to me too, i was at Emerald at a friends & had to go to the city my friend said use the motorway but my GPS took me the back way i never did find to motorway, did not see any signs up showing how to find it. here in Sydney they are well sign posted easy to find, sometimes hard to avoid like the cross city tunnel.

Yup, I have mine in the storage compartment on the dash and never usually open it unless I've got the music loud and I want to hear the tag beep.

using the number of privately owned/registered cars as a guide to the number of people on the road isn't to accurate as i know several people with 4 or 5 cars but can only drive one at a time ,obviously. :razz:and most of our news reports aren't to accurate anyway.  ran off topic for a second there sorry.

good one bez10y.
reason i now use the compartment is the RTA bracket i got on my i30 screen seems falty very hard to get it to click in place, i have another bracket on my facon ute same but easy to click into place. the one on the i30 has caused the tag to fall on me when i hit a bump, hence i will just use the storage in the i30 and the mount in the ute.

Yeah we got two mounts, one for each car and the one in the Pulsar keeps falling off, maybe a bad bunch of sticky glue?
