The new Hyundai i40 headlamps were inspired by “the eyes of a falcon” and the shape of the sides of the car by “desert sand dunes by dusk” – I mean, it’s bleedin’ obvious, isn’t it?

I took my i30 in for its first service and whittled away the time whilst the work was completed by taking an i40 Tourer for a test drive.

I was very impressed.

Having owned several Audis over the past 10 years I can honestly state that the i40 is in that league. The fit and finish is as good, the car is refined and easy to drive, it is spacious with a huge luggage capacity, it looks better in the flesh than the photos and has all the bells and whistles you could wish for. It is very competitively priced and has impressive performance and CO2 emissions. Hyundai can now claim to compete with the best.  I can well imagine the big fleet owners will be taking a keen interest.

Ford, General Motors and The Volkswagen Group must be more than a bit concerned at this new rival.

It's just a pity that this model is bigger, better and more expensive than our needs - hopefully the forthcoming new i30 will follow in its footsteps at a more affordable price for an old pensioner.

wow!!!
1.7 CRDi Turbo Diesel
100kW/330Nm (auto)
Fuel Efficiency (from)
Combined: 5.6L/100km..... I30cw 5.8
Urban: 7.2L/100km...........I30cw 7.2
Hwy: 4.8L/100km.............I30cw 5.1

$26590 for an CRDI auto CW vs 36490 for the I40 10k is a lot of coin.....

oh well don't need to worry about a new car until June 2015 so I'll sit back and watch this unfold with interest....I suspect if the right deal comes up you could find me +10.
