Yes, thanks Lorian.. Great find.. as I mentioned elsewhere on here the i30 crdi recently won a category in the Australias best car awards for 2009 and got an 8 out of 10 for depreciation (being an above average rating - which is also great for a Hyundai)

Interesting article and good news but I don't think the figures apply to the real world judging by used cars for sale. Hard to believe the Civic only loses 15% in 3 years, I thought you lost that driving the car off the forecourt?

According to Parkers, taking the franchised dealer price for 2.5 year old car my dep = 32%

I wouldn't trust any of the high street guides that much, they really just give a ball park figure.

So much depends on the area you are in and if there is a market for the make/model you are trading, if a dealer knows that he can shift your trade on easily, you can eke out a better deal..........

I looked at 2nd hand prices before buying and it seemed there wasn't too much depreciation. When the i30 first came out they were predicting 60% + depreciation over three years. 

Some other figures -

Toyota Auris  32.41%
Volkswagen Golf 35.32%
Mazda 3  36.97%
Kia Ceed 40.69%
Ford Focus  44.14%

Surprising that the Kia isn't nearer to the i30, as it is largely the same and has a 7 year warranty.

Yeah, but Kia does not have the reputation yet, they are in about the same reknown as Hyundai were about 5+ years ago..........................

Yes it is the same here (the Kia Carnival having motor issues at just 100,000km doesn't help...)
