It is with great regret that I post about my precious i30 (2012 Trophy) having a broken drivers side power window (AGAIN!).

It first broke 2.5 years ago - repaired under warranty; replaced window regulator.
Warranty ran out 1.5 years ago 

Hyundai apparently only warrant their own repairs for 12 months. Despite me complaining that a brand new window regulator/repair should last longer than 2.5 years it is looking like they won't come to the party. It will cost $305 for the part and $230 (1.5hrs labour) to fix (so $535)...on what is likely a plastic clip.

I am not confident enough with cars (youtube/posts here look a bit too complicated) to pull the door apart and replace a plastic clip but I am 99.9% sure that is the problem. It happened back 2.5yrs ago where it went 'clunk' and fell into the door and window would not come up. Exact same thing happened again 'clunk and snap' then would not come up.

Is there any Sydney based i30 'enthusiast' on here I could pay to fix it, if I bought the new clips on eBay? My other option is this Powerwin company in Brisbane I saw in a past post which can provide a reconditioned one and then I need to find someone to install it; or I just bite the bullet and go with Hyundai reluctantly and pay the $500...

The other option is to really try pushing Hyundai head office - I feel like this really aint fair that so many people post about this problem online (I guess not a majority...but it seems to happen quite a bit!)...but they wanted $150 paid to dealer to formally diagnose the issue in order to then consider a out of warranty good faith type repair or contribution...

I live in Syd inner west.

I reckon have a bet each way. Try and use the consumer laws for what is reasonable expected life. Since their original wty is 5 years I would consider it last at least that.  Most of us that have had these cars long enough know it's not a case of if but when .

Clips are cheap enough. Hopefully you did not opearte the window after failure and bound up the cable.

Fixing it is easy, just a lot of stuffing around getting that inner panel off.

I've seen the Powerwin ADS, I'm not convinced of their "reinforced" Hype and at the price they want.

You can get new OEM  for less

You will have to drill out the rivets and refit the speaker.

I got my self a spare set of used fronts and have them ready to go with spare clips in the cupboard.

If you're keeping this for a while, you know what to expect.

If you're trying to do this yourself don't do what someone else did recently and remove ext handles , door lock etc. You don't need to.

I tried pushing re the fact it was only replaced 2.5 years ago but was told they only warrant repairs till the original warranty end date which essentially gave it 12 months. I'm still pushing trying to get them to reduce the $500 somehow....

The window was operated quite a lot of times after it broke unfortunately My other half had no idea of the issue and just kept trying That may have done more damage....


That ebay link you have re the new window regulator for $169 must be equivalent to the part Hyundai is trying to charge me $320 for...I wonder if I can supply this part to them and use their labour and save $150?

Drilling out rivets and things worries me re not having the time to go down that path of pulling everything apart and repairing it myself....so I think it is a job best left for the pro's :/

Believe it or not I just heard back and Hyundai is willing to provide the part for free , and I pay the labour $230... seems fair enough to me so now getting it booked in. Happy with that outcome.

Now to avoid this again next time....what should I use to lubricate the rubber window tracks?

Good outcome, see if they need to keep the old unit otherwise keep it, buy a kit to refurbish it and stick away for a rainy day. I doubt they'd fit a supplied part but if they did you'd have no wty.

any decent mechanically minded person could fit it next time, does not need to be the dealer.

  There's an i30 around my work place getting around with 2 very large strips of duct tape on the outside holding window. What a gooey mess that will be to get off if they ever fix it.

Nah, just unplug the cable to the switch.


Had mine unplugged for sometime now so people didn't play with it while the regulator carriage/assembly was broken.

Installed this today : NEW Hyundai i30 Hatch Wagon Power Window Regulator 07-12 Left Front LHS FD | eBay .
No swearing, and <2 hours, very happy. First time drilling out rivets tho.
