I have a 2017  i30 SR Premium which I have only purchased recently, so I'm still trying to get used to the operation of the electronic safety systems.
Most of them appear to be working as described in the manual.
However, the LKAS does not seem to be operating properly.
The system enables when I press the button and the icon appears in white on the LCD.But when the vehicle reaches the speed at which it should activate when the icon should turn green, and the steering wheel symbol appear, nothing happens  - the icon just remains white and no intervention or alarms occur.
Am I doing something wrong? The manual states that the symbol should flash yellow if the system is malfunctioning, but this doesn't happen.
Haven't been to the dealer yet.
Any suggestions?

Is your windscreen clean and are the lane markings bright enough I wonder?

The camera needs to see a reflection off the markings to judge when you're getting close to them to provide a nudge to the steering. If it can't see the lines the symbol will remain white.

Thanks Shambles.
I believe the windscreen IS clean. However, I think the manual may also advise that the  TCS must be deactivated before LKAS will work.
The  manual is a bit confusing, as it says that the "Driver Assist " systems should  have their own mode on the LCD,but some of mine are in the "Settings" mode.
Also, there is no "OK" button on the steering wheel .Where the  OK button is meant to be there is a button  with 3 squares in a vertical stack flanked by a white line on each side. I think this button is meant to change the following distance in SCC.
I'm also unsure of how to activate the DAA system. There is a display for it in the LCD,but it just says "System Off" and a time display indicating 4 zeros.
The vehicle is still within its new car warranty period. Are these systems covered under warranty?
Thanks again for your input  :goodjob2: I realise these type of issues are almost impossible to diagnose. Just thought others may have had similar issues and might have some ideas.
These problems don't make the vehicle undrivable so I thought I would wait until the next service was due before troubling the dealer with it.

Hi Diemji,

I had an 2017 SR (non premium) for 2 years and 66,000 kilometres. In hindsight possibly the best car I've had out of 34!

It's been 7 months since I traded her (on a hybrid Camry) and a lot longer since I fiddled with the LKA settings, but I'm sure there was a way to adjust them.

There are lots of different opinions on the Active Lane Keep assist function in various cars (including the SR) Some people love them, others hate the feeling.

Initially when it kicks in it can feel like the car is tramlining but I had my SR set up so it was very effective at mostly keeping me in the centre of my lane (on clearly marked highways) even in fairly heavy rain!

In comparison, the LKA in my Toyota Hybrid is fairly useless (does bugger all)

So in summary I suspect it needs a tweak in the menus. But I would have to sit in one and have a fiddle to remember what I did.

The OK button is actually the up down toggle. You press the toggle in for the ok function.

Interesting to reflect. Why do we get lured into replacing a car that has been brilliantly functional?

Probably the best car I have owned was a Nissan Skyline. Never missed a beat, quite powerful, especially quick off the lights, cant remember why I sold it?  :head_knock:

And now I look back on the recently departed Magna 'Office'.  About a month ago, after 7 years brilliant service, the transmission died. Sudden death on a country road, 6kms from home. But the loss had a bright side.  :DoubleKiss:

I had only walked a few paces toward home when a SUV pulled up and the driver offered me a lift.
The very attractive lady had two small kids in the back and a dog on the front seat. She got out and moved the dog to the back to allow me in. She also explained that they had just been to the river for a swim , thats why she was only wearing her underwear.
She drove me to my front door.
True story.

Just finishing the story.   :winker:

Wow, after 6 weeks of virtual lockdown I'd pay good money to have an experience like that!  :crazy1:

I'm loving my Camry but in some ways the SR was a better all around package. Less things that could be improved than the Camry.  The top 4 or 5 cars I've owned were all great in different ways. I might start a thread shortly called my best cars and post a picture of each and do a table rating them against each other and encourage others to post about theirs.
