I'm putting together a small emergency toolkit and I'm wondering what sizes are common throughout the car as I was going to carry those sockets with me. Is there a list somewhere? 12, 14, 16mm for example?

10, 12 and 14 are mostly the ones you may need on the road.

It depends what range of repairs you might want to do on the road. I find there are 13, 15, 17, 17, 19mm nuts. I just carry my socket set around in the car, as well as ring-spanners, open-end spanners, a set of screwdrivers and torque wrench. I have an i30GD so I stash 'em away in the storage tray under the boot floor. I also keep an aux drive belt as well.

You can bet that whatever tool you need in an emergency, it'll be the one you didn't bring.
