I have to split the lower ball joint on my 2015 diesel to replace a drive shaft. There's a pinch bolt that clamps the ball joint to the hub, which I could remove and hopefully knock the ball joint out to separate them. There are also 3 bolts which attach the ball joint to the lower control arm, so would it be any easier to undo those and leave the ball joint attached to the hub?

Are there pros and cons to doing it one way or the other?
