Any tips on how to look after your keys while in the sea? We go on holiday soon and spend a fair bit of it in the water. We have aquapacs which have been ok for car keys previously but the i30 keys are more expensive!

I wondered if there where any thoughts of how to keep the water and sand out of keys yet not get em stolen?

Put your key in one of these then insert into a suitably dry place   :sweating:

Gibber, there's a bit of a story elsewhere on here.

But essentially I get a blank cut which only works at opening/ locking the door (manually) and will activate the ignition to the accessory level. DO NOT TRY TO START THE ENGINE.

In Oz, I had to go to a locksmith who specialised in automotive keys. There weren't any key blanks available to suit the Hyundai but he worked out a Toyota one would work and it did.
Cost me $50 Australian which is a lot more than any model I've had before. But well worth it for the security. The part number off the Toyota blank (aftermarket) is "TOY40P"

I then lock my real key in the car somewhere inconspicuous and make a show of locking the door with the blank key and use a cord to hang it round my neck, where it stays until I've had my surf.

That's what I did with my previous car as it did not have an alarm but as the i30 does, cannot risk the insurance company saying I did not lock it properly if it gets broken in to and the alarm was not activated  :scared:

Does the spare set the alarm and deadlocks?

If it doesn't then if a person was to break in they would have plently of time to locate the fob key and make off with your car.

Doesn't set the alarm but probably the deadlocks. I'll check.
Anyway, at the beach there are literally dozens to hundreds of cars parked in a small area. Many are either unlocked or if they are surfers the key is under a wheel arch.
So it's fair to assume crooks will take the easiest route.
Then,  in a worst case scenario, break and enters in cars are pretty much smash and grab if others are around, so I can't see anyone taking the time to calmly break in (they'd need to smash a window) and then climb in the car and spend several minutes looking for a key.

Edit: It DOES lock the deadlocks.

And Dazz, I live on the Sunshine Coast not the Gold Coast.

Ordered another aquapac, updated one. Just got to trust in it but never had one leak before. Doubt warranty would cover salt eroded fob!

Thanks for the thought of a crim crow, nightmares for me tonight...

But there's a big crim/crow trap in between. It's called Brisbane. :whistler:
