This has been discussed before I know it has and I do recall someone <can't recall whom> complaining that the paint with which the i30 is coated seems to rub off real easy...  Well, here's the proof :-)

This is the Thornborough fail safe scratch prevention system, patent pending.....

The second image is just to give the reader an idea how cramped my garage is....

Now then fellow i30'uns  I have had the scratch prevention system installed for several month now and occasionally I just check the door out to be sure it's working ok, this usually involves sliding my hand down the edge, in a  rather sensual way, and giving it a quick looksee.

Then this afternoon I glanced at the actual cloth and saw the following :-

I have to say that this surprised me, I am quite careful opening the door and do not allow it to slam against the wall and the last thing I expected to see was pigment stains on the wall......    Have Hyundai scrimped on hardening agents.  clearly enough pigment <the expensive bit> why would they not put hardening agent in?????

Discuss ????

Mr Griptight

Is this not just normal for bright red cars though??  I recall a friend of mine having a bright red XR2 which still polished up beautifully after owning it for about 5 years, yet every piece of cloth used in the polishing process had a deep red hue despite using white wax products..........

Is there evidence of paint "missing" from the door edge?

May be you need to buy and insert a set of plastic door edge protectors

Oh no eye30, you've missed the point completely, I have a door edge protection system already, I refer you back to the photographs, which are my advertising blurb.  Not in full production yet, but has the orders flood in I shall swing into action.....

I can see no evidence of paint loss from the doors edge...

All very weird really

I think you could well be  right, just surprised me....   I shall do a more in depth study as and when the weather improves, yeah after the driest April since time began, the heavens have opened down here and it's chuckin it down, with thunder and lightening as well   :blubber: :blubber: :blubber:

I can however had evidence which may help to solve the puzzle, and it's this :-

I am a man possessed of a somewhat Rubinesque figure, which means that, when I sit down in the drivers seat (the door still being open and possibly touching cloth) there will be a noticeable up and down motion of the door, mainly down actually, adding weight (no pun intended) to Bumkin's observation that pigment can be polished off....

I must have missed the point completely as I though you were talking about the door hitting the clothe and the paint transferring to the clothe

No Dazz....  dizzy blonde lady rammed my near side rear end, the cars rear end that is of course.  Dizzy blonde was a very honest and truthful person, the claim settled in a matter of hours.  For which I thanks her in her absence  :goodjob:...

However Dazz, you have launched me down a different route of thinking, the reason I invented the *Thornborough scratch prevention system* was because I needed to do some minor touch up <on the car I mean>  so, it may be that the pigment is from the touch up paint.  Life is so darned complicated isn't it.

The book....  nah, no-one would believe it Dazz, trust me, and also I recall the time of writing my dissertation at my Alma Mata  it almost drove me mad.  My dissertation supervisor used to go crackers with me, is favourite  line was  "your a story teller, and that doesn't work in academic writing"  Still I got a 2.1 so that did it for me.

OK the FA cup final is about to start here on our Sceptered Isle, so I will get some crisps and a brew and go and settle down to watch *Manchester City* win the cup   HAhahahahaahahah
