Hi guys.
Got a problem with my used i30 (2009) - if I leave it outside the windows all fogged up within an hour. Yes, its winter here in WA as well, but the other 2 cars (much older) don't have this problem. Was driving home from the movies tonight - had to spend good 5 minutes before the windscreen cleared up! And that is with A/C on and fan on full! What can it be? I thought maybe the carpets, but I touch tested them - seem dry. Checked the seals around the doors - look OK. Have not checked the pollen filter (doubt it was ever changed since new), but its a pain to remove, so leaving till last.

Any ideas on what might be the cause?

Thanks

Does the air conditioner work ok, ie.. does it dry the whole of the inside as well as cool when turned really low?

A/C is working well. Its just that there is so much humidity/fog on the windows, that it takes forever to get rid if it.
Just don't know what might cause the windows to fog up that quick

On the odd occasion when I've left my vents in the open position (turning off the car with the airflow pointing screenwards) I've had condensation, but the aircon cleared it within 30 seconds.

What I'm getting at, is despite you saying the mats are dry, there could be an issue with the dryer connection which I believe is right up near the firewall between driver and passenger. I just had a search on another Hyundai forum but can't find the post where this was diagnosed as the fault.

Another post I did find mentioned the pipe connector for the rear washer, which had come loose dumping small quantities of water into the drivers footwell, but that's not your problem...

I'll keep looking around. At the end of the day you're covered by warranty so don't get too concerned just yet...

My windows fog up in the cold weather.

It's to do with the warmer air inside car to the outside air being cold.

I've had it from day 1

The length of time it is taking to clear still suggests a dampness issue to me..

Hard to know where to start. Does it smell damp inside at all (try sniffing around the carpet inside the cabin and the boot..)

Do you know the history of the car .. I hope it wasn't a repaired hail damaged car  :( Windows smashed by hail lots of rain got in and never properly dried under the carpet ?)

Are you leaving the car outside with the vents shut?
I am impressed with how well the i30 seals.
So well, that on nights I hop in the car on a cold night, the windows can fog due to my body heat and having the vents closed.

Many years ago I was advised to keep car ventilation open for the majority of times.
This kinda equalises the air temp inside and out... as well as provide fresh air whilst driving.

Hope this is the case.
