With money as no object I would buy two cars and a mansion with two garages, one for a small car, such as Smart for everyday driving in a city, meanwhile the second one for a car with 4WD, such as VW Touareg or Nissan Pathfinder (if money is an object, but still suffice for two cars I would choose either KIA Sportage New or Hyundai ix35) for the countryside drivings
Can't do that It's one car only!Dave
I agree. One car only. However, my wife will have a car and can change it as much as we she likes. At this point in time I'd be happy to go for the top of the range i30 Hatch but would have to drive a diesel first to see whether to buy that or petrol.I'd stay with 17" wheels.Instal a sun roof and re-trim the interior in leather.Lower slightly and fit uprated struts and HD rear sway bar.And it'd be a manual.Really can't think of anything else I'd want.Of course my thinking is always going to be coloured by what I have at present if I'm happy with it - and I am.

OK .. not that hard really .. after a thorough study of Carsales.com the winner is Diesel Hyundai i40 active Manual with optional 18" Hyundai wheel upgrade .. Darkest possible window tint and maybe a few other options off their list (depending what else is on offer) If it was our only car would want a roomy economical wagon type vehicle with most of the bells and whistles and a long warranty...
Porsche 911 Turbo S Coupe.I wouldn't get a helicopter though. If money is no object, why would I want to work??

I'll have to google Cadillac Escalade (unless you happen to have a pic handy?).And a helicopter - I like your thinking

Great choice and you are relatively easily pleased - especially when money is no object.Great for carting all those grandkids around though, eh Dazz?

So sue me.

None of the list when I narrowed it down under $100,000 came up better than the i40 (which didn't come up as it was not classed as a wagon)
Fair enough. But it doesn't have to be under $100,000 remember.
You youngsters need to think a little more out of the box.If the car is to be the only one you use until you die - and you expect to live well beyond retirement age - you have to allow for the physical changes that old age brings.Your eyesight may not be as good as it wasYou will probably suffer hearing lossYour bones will not be as flexibleArthritis may well be a factorHence you will need a car that :-Has good all-round vision, Is refined and has a quiet cabin, Is easy to get in and out ofHas light controls. This will rule out most saloon cars - including the i30 CRDi Premium with 17" wheels which is very noisy, has a notchy gear change, poor three quarter rear vision and is very low making it difficult for old fogies to get in and out of.You need to look at a suitable SUV with large windows where the seats are bum height for easy access, it has good all round vision, light controls and is quiet.Which cars satisfy those criteria other than a petrol Skoda Yeti ? I need to know.

But Alan I don't like SUVS (and I could afford to get a reversing camera for the i40)
Quote from: Dazzler on January 28, 2012, 09:45:04But Alan I don't like SUVS (and I could afford to get a reversing camera for the i40)Tough tits - the i40 is a lovely motor but is too low with compromised vision and is not very quiet. You need a tall car that is easy to access and with a panorama view. You also will need a quiet one for your deafness so that Trish doesn't need to shout all the time.Toyata are bringing out a SUV on the Prius platform - that may suit you better.I forgot to mention - any car must have a big enough boot for a wheelchair and/or Zimmer frame
