Last altercation I was involved in was in 2002 with one of our lovely local indigenous residents, bastard rammed my transit van with his purple valiant and when I opened the door to see what the hell had just happened he stabbed me with a Stanley knife :disapp:

It's not half as bad as the stories we here about people getting killed in car jacking's on a nearly daily occurrence in Africa :P

That is sadly true...I mean just look at the Anni Dewani case and how it's propagated in the media.

At least I drive a very incognito-ish car, the most hijacked cars in SA are the VW Polo's and Toyota Corolla's, and the i30 is a bit near the bottom of that list :happydance:

But hey, SA has its perks...where else in the world can you ride an ostrich or pet a lion?

The US :D but you'll probably get car jacked there as well :winker: We have Emu's but their not quite as big as an Ostrich so I don't think they'd go very far carrying someone on their back.

Maybe they should let the Lions roam the street to get rid of the car jackers :snigger:

Aren't Emu's super dangerous? Or am I thinking of something else...?

Ha, good idea, but all we'd end up with are very obese lions! I read up and saw that SA has around 120'000 vehicle thefts reported per year :scared:

Maybe if they kick you they could do some damage but I cant ever recall hearing it happen to anyone, I had a sneaky Emu last year stick it's head through the fence and plucked the top off my ice cream before I could move :Pout:

You might be thinking of Cassowary's, a lot smaller bird but can be very aggressive and rip you right open with their feet/toes

Emu's are harmless if left alone. They are a beautiful and very funny bird. I remember many times in the middle of nowhere stopped for lunch or changing a tyre etc. you will see them way off in the distance and they'll slowly get closer and closer until they're only about 10 meters away. Just want to check you out, very curious animals.

Drop bears on the other hand :)

Couple of workmates years ago were driving out in central western Qld and one wanted to make a comfort stop.
They pull over and Allan walked away from the car and down a dry creek bed. He's relieving himself and felt Rod (the driver) tapping him on the shoulder.
"Yeah Yeah! Give me a break," he says, turning around............ to find an emu is pecking at his shoulder.

Meanwhile Rods in the car P*ssing himself laughig.............with the doors locked.

Reminds me of the time I was driving in the Mojave desert with my wife and son (2010 before my daughter was born), and my son announces he needs to take a leak.  So I pull over by the side of the road, get him out (he was 5) and instruct him to stand with his back to the car away from the road and pizzle in the sand.  Standing there, in the middle of nowhere, I decide hey I'm here might as well drain the dragon as well, so I flop it out and take a leak too.  When we get back in the car my wife has a half-amused look on her face.  Turns out that because I'd trained the right wing mirror on the right rear wheel of the car (not being used to parking a left hand drive vehicle) she had a well focussed view of my willy, and underneath the words "Objects may be closer than they appear".

-+ Yesterday I discovered the auxilliary power accessory socket in my i30 does not work. I have one of these torches that I keep in it and I always assumed it was permanently on charge:

Nice little torch well worth the AU$8 I paid, plus in an emergency I have a light within arms reach (better than fumbling with a touchscreen phone trying to turn the flashlight app on)

I was wrong! It has a little red LED that lights up when it receives charge, which wasn't coming on in the aux socket. I decided to check it in my main 12V socket that holds the cigarette lighter and it works there. I googled a bit and thought I must have a loose wire somewhere as all my other lights work fine. It didn't occur to me that the second 12V socket has it's own separate fuse. The fuse was blown, swopped it out with a new one and presto! My torch charges in the correct socket again :goodjob2:

I'm starting to feel that wind-down to Christmas and posting out. With one week to go at work just to complete clearances, I've installed DOSBox on my Linux machine and a number of retro games.

I ran through all of Leisure Suit Larry in two days.
I'm halfway through a starting campaign in Warcraft II.
I've flown five sorties of Wing Commander.
