sooo..after getting my seat stitching fixed, the guys noticed a "knocking" noise, which i must said, i had noticed but always kept the music up...and thought it was just me. they all noticed it too, so wanted to look into it further for me!...

its coming from somewhere in cabin on the passenger side, i could hear it from B pillar area, thought it was seatbelt, but held that and still heard it... the guys at the dealership are going to investigate... will keep u guys posted..

anyone else had similar issues...

UPDATE: So, after pointing the finger at the sunroof, the guys at the service centre douted it was the case.. but decided to look anyway.
Turns out the bolts holding the sunroof on were rather loose and this is what was causing the mystery knocking. When the car was on an angle/bump obviously the panoramic sunroof would lift up slightly and back down, causing the knocking noise!

UPDATE 2: So, the knocking dissapeared again, then started to slowly come back.
The National head tech had to be called in for advice, so hyundai are now replacing the WHOLE
panoramic roof, apparntly its not in "parts" or the "Tracks" it sits on cannot come seperatly, so
they are completly replacing it (which means glass and all...).

This will be in 2-3 weeks as it will take that long to have the part shipped over...hmmm

I had a similar issue in week 1 of my ownership. Turned out to be a faulty pretensioner which was replaced under warranty. Not saying that's the same as your problem tho, but at least your 'ship has it in hand :)

As long as there's not one of their mechanics hanging on underneath, that's the main thing.  :D

haha,
well, they sat 4 people in the car to try and isolate the noise...each of them had different views, so they pulled off some trims and pillar trims etc...but could not find the source.. but, i havnt heard the noise since.. so perhaps they just found the problem without realising and its gone lol..

That's actually not the best idea. All those people altered the weight & balance of the interior, probably negating the noise. But apparently, the noise is gone, so good result.

Check under the rear seat cushions.

May be the added weight has cause something to be relocated into its housing.

Good thinking Lester but I would leave it be unless the noise returns  :goodjob:

sooo i noticed a loose exterior garnish that was loose, looks like they broke a couple of fixing clips when removing things to check.... hmm so they have ordered a replacment part to fix... if i hear the noise again im just going to leave it, dont wanna  have loose and broken clips anywhere...

sooo ITS BACK :(

iv had some mates in the car, and they all seem to think its coming from the Panoramic sunroof... iv pushed (when in place) lightly to see if it is loose at all, but doesnt seem to be...

its doing my head in.. any ideas? i think the dealer thinks im abit silly, especially since it went, and now its back... ahhhh

I hate rattles  Hope you can pin it down  Try some adhesive pads in the glove lid (between the lid and the dash) although that is usually more of a buzz than a rattle ..  :Pout:

Top news and just goes to show that service departments need to listen to owners who are in the best position to know their own cars.  :goodjob2:

it had the dealers stunned, apparntly they were so loose. i had pushed on the glass previously but they said the glass is so heavy, thats why it wouldnt have budged from a push, but was lucky didnt go over a huge pot hole or it could have been a major situation...

so this is all the issues iv had since getting her...

1: window seal not sitting tight - defective, letting water in.
2: loose stitching in leather seats - repaired, all fine
3: defective body garnish (triangle peice near wing mirror)
and 4: loose sunroof...

hmm lol lets hope thats it!!

Yeah, a bit disappointing.. Quality control on the series 1 (FD) i30 was generally spot on from the Korean Factory which supplies Australia  :Pout:

Maybe you should email Hyundai Australia (or even their H/O in Korea) Saying you are thrilled with your new car but a bit disappointed in the quality control issues ..  :whistler: (a few freebies like a service voucher or something wouldn't go astray)  :winker:

I didn't have any warranty issues when new and the only one in three years was peeling "fake chrome" from the interior driver's door handle which was replaced under warranty without question.

Just for the record brodie this is some of what I would have said in my email...

"To whom it may concern..

I have recently taken delivery of a Brand new Premium Hyundai i30 ...

I am delighted with the styling, design, features and driveability of my new Hyundai.

However, having partly purchased the car due to glowing recommendations from other Hyundai owners on sites such as the www.i30ownersclub.com, I have been very disappointed to have already experienced 4 quality control related issues...

These issues were...
1
2
3
4

I have my fingers crossed no others will show up. In the mean time I am a bit less keen than I was to recommend Hyundai to my friends and family  :whistler: "

I would suspect something like that would have resulted in a few freebies  :D

Thanks dazzler. So first thing this morning I had a call to say how sorry they were, and offered me my next service free, and $200 petrol voucher and an extra years roadside assistance.... Replace I told them no I wanted a new car... Jokes. I was very thankful to them. Very impressed
