Had to work today,on my way home had to call into the shops and there were these things everywhere in the car park,even a few of their newer siblings the GD(didn't get a shot of them),these were the couple opposite Cyril where I parked,yes thats Cyrils right butt cheek in the fore ground,when I decided to take the photo I was going to move Cyril and get a shot of the three,but Eh couldn't be bother

Yes when we bought Bruce and Cyril,the I20 had a really nice metallic blue very much like the one I seen yesterday,but yes you guessed it notavailable at the time in the I30.

G'Day All
After the latest death on our roads over here(Brookton Hwy Thursday),the Police commissioner came on the TV asking public to wake up to themselves and start taking a lot more care on the road's,although he has a point,the biggest part of the problem is that of the government and the PPL enforcing the rules and regs,not only the police but the motor vehicle departments and department of licensing.
If they are truly wishing to start to reduce road tolls and even serious accidents and injuries,they have to start by taking many of the drivers of today off the roads,not only the new immigrants,but many of the existing road users.
I have been a professional driver for more years than I wish to remember and yes when I got my license things were a lot simpler,but for me to Gert a full license at 16 In SA was not an easy assignment,as I expressed and interest in the trucking industry,I was tested accordingly,I had to prove I could fault find mechanical issues,I had to prove I could change a wheel if it was required,I was also required to prove I could secure a load to a vehicle,none of these skills are tested these days for light vehicles or heavy vehicles these days,basically all you have to do is show you have the ability to steer and not hit anything,very simplistic look at it but that is the basics of getting a license today,perfect example was the courier driver I spoke of the other day Middle eastern gentleman,he could not even read English,to talk to someone in the office he had a freaking electronic translater,their letting these idiots on our roads,perfect example again was yesterday,had to work,I am waiting the lights to change I am in a right hand turn lane,waiting to turn right,there was traffic coming towards me,traffic waiting at the lights in the side street waiting to turn both left and right,and the WTF on my right on the wrong side of the road was some dumbass  Punjab,pulling up at the lights facing the oncoming traffic on the wrong side of the road,where the hell he come from is anyones guess,so for me this is the governments fault,unless they can speak and read fluently in English DO NOT ISSUE THEM a motor vehicle license.
Now let me get stuck into our own English speaking drivers,lets get the government to put more money into the forces,so we can have more police presence on the roads and start enforcing more of the traffic regulations which get passed by now,like PPl one Mobiles,PPl wearingheadsets and headphones ina vehicle how freaking stupid is that,but I see it on a very regular basis,lets see the government kick in more money to our licensing departments so they can do their jobs better,and getting more of the unroadworthy and older vehicles off the roads,the bloke that got killed the other day was in an old series two landrover,lap sash seat belts and no roll over protection,so you can see why he got killed by rolling his vehicle.

Let us bring in regular re testing and examination of all drivers not just our elderly (over 85,have to be tested every two years)let us bring in a license re testing system where EVERYONE has to be re tested every five years,if they don't pass take them off the road until they can conform,also in the testing bring in testing of vehicle knowledge and testing for the basic's like being able to change a wheel,can't do it don't get a license,for Christ's sake I know women young lads and girls who couldn't even tell me where the spare wheel of their car is,let alone know how to change it.

My reason behind the tougher love attitudes to licenses is I believe it is not your god given right to have a license it is a privilege to be allowed to have one,I have said it before I am far from the perfect driver but,for me to keep my job as a driver I have to do regular testing,I have to regularly keep up to date with current rules and regulations,road routes for the vehicles I have to drive,I on a personal point regularly go to the dept of trans web site and do their on line road rules tests,just to see if I can still pass the latest tests,nearly everyone I know,I have asked when was the last time you read the road rules and regulations,the answer is always the same"Oh! when I was studying for my License" some of these PPL have had their licenses for years,so their really up on the latest road rules,if regular testing and review is good enough for heavy vehicle operators it should also be mandatory for ANY licensed driver,how many PPL out there other than the professional drivers are fully up to par on Driver Fatigue st ratorgies and regulations.

So I feel the governments and regulating deptmen ts are just as responsible for the terrible road toll as US as drivers,lets get the older vehicles off the roads,unless they meet minimum vehicle safety standards,lets have more frequent testing of both vehicles and the drivers themselves,here in WA lets do away with EDL's,as far as I know WA is the only state that has them,now these drivers which get them have already been charged with SERIOUS traffic offences,they deserve to be off the road now not when they eventually kill someone,anyhow now I have had my rant about how poorly things are run over here and the lack of care and consideration of our drivers over here,lets hear your views whether they agree or disagree with my own,againa License is a PRIVILEDGE,not your god given RIGHT as an Australian,import or visitor

As I said Rusty they would have to meet some safety standards,I would prefer to ride round in Daves P76's, than some of these newer utes and trucks on the roads today,
you see some of the early Suzuki small 4x4's still on the roads,soft tops,absolutely no ROPS at all,how freeaking safe are they in any accident,these earlier 4x4"s can be fitted with ROPS  to make them safer,just saying there are many PPL and vehicles on our roads here that have no right at being there,we have the perfect example up here,only see this vehicle on the road some weekends,old Mack water truck,smashed windscreen,smashed and missing headlights,broken tailights,bald tyres and I certainly wouldn't walk in front of it when it was loaded and moving,probably wouldn't stop,it has been reported to Police,do they do anything about it,no because they are out doing other work,we can't even contact our local police direct here,you have to ring a central number and you get pasted from pillar to post and you finally get to talk to someone up to 200K's away(how freakin handy is that when your being stabbed in the chest by a miscreant),my point is the powers which can control and police these things are far to under staffed,under funded

While I get what you're trying to say, Rick...cars like Dave's P76 may be nice and solid, but they are still pretty hopeless in a major accident.
I'd imagine they would be lucky to get a 1 rating in the ANCAPS tests...lol. At least these newer utes are designed to "collapse" in an accident and have airbags to hopefully help prevent you from suffering major injuries.

As for fitting rops, why should people have to spend a fortune modifying vehicles they bought which met the rules of the day? Where do you draw the line? Cars of just a couple of years ago weren't required to have electronic stability control, should these cars be put off the road?

I worked out ROPS too. 

With regard to retro fitting, as you go past 90 Deg in a roll over, you'll wish you had. To me it would be a personal safety issue, which is why I don't own one.
