As far as the buffing goes, that can most likely be corrected by a car detailer so don't discount getting that one purely because of that.

One of four from the same dealer.

Did we have link to dealers?

http://www.pacifictoyota.com.au/ - You'll have to search for them yourselves, the direct link doesn't show JUST the Hyundai's.

thanks for the link.

At least they are a substantial dealer. Because they are not a hyundai dealer they might find it a bit harder to move them (so be as firm as you can in your negotiations)  :winker:

Thanks for the tips everyone! I really like the look of the black i30s on the road, but on top of the buff marks, the fact that the dark blue one stands out so much more than the rest, I hope that I'll be able to grab it instead. It does look like it's got metallic paint. In the paper they advertised that specific one as $13990,but on carsales and their own website it's $14990... Hmm... Will have my bargaining hat on! Will be AMAZED if I can get any of them dropped down to $13500 - at least! (not including the white one which has less than a month rego on it according to their carsales ad)

Well you can always just walk away/say you want to think about it/drop in the conversation you have others to consider etc etc and see what they do to try and seal a deal.

Yes that used to be my favorite trick,I remember when we got our wagon years ago,car yard want $11,950,I told them I only had $8500,the salesman didn't want us to leave the yard, did the test drive, spoke a bit more he came back with counter offer,I simply said sorry we only have the $8500,if he could'nt do it for that we would have to walk, which we did just hopped in our car and left, within five minutes the phone rang,he asked if we could do $9500,said no sorry we told you what we have and we were on our way to go and look at another car the same, for around our money and hung up,we were actually going to drive home to the country, before we got out of Perth Phone rang again and we got our wagon for the price we wanted $8500,so it can be done, both our I30's we got for just on $4000 under list price.

Anyhow good luck with the hunt, make them think it doesn't matter whether or not you get a car, like eye30 said offer them $1500 $2000 less than what they want and then just walk away after you give them your number, car salesmen hate to see PPL walk out of their yards and knowing how yards work their mark up on these vehicles will be considerable so they can make it look like their giving you a good deal and still making their profit margin, wish I could come with you I love screwing with Car salesmen.

You are getting some great advice wkristen... :goodjob:

I would have loved to have been there to help too..Shame you are so far away from Rick and I (Can't think of an active member in Cairns who could help)  :undecided:

We have plenty of savvy active Members in QLD but they are mostly in Brisbane or Sunshine coast areas

I usually do that part on my own.. If they made a poor offer on our trade Trish would fire up and give them a dose probably " That is shit, you must be joking etc.."  :coolingoff:

Love the negotation bit. When I got the Wifes I30, they took the trade in for a drive to 'check how it drives' then conviently kept the keys. I had a little chuckle to myself.

They came with the offer on the trade and then asked me what I thought. I said "its not screaming sign today". They went away came back with another offer I wasn't happy with. "Ok mate I have another appointment, give me my keys It's obvious were miles apart". Look of panic on old mates face "what do we have to do to get you to sign today?"

I always remember doing a subject on negotation at Uni (it was my favorate, the lecturer was really good). He said you always need a BATNA (better alternative to a negotated agreement) . He said it was difficult where you had to deal with people again (if you screw them this time when you have the power, then they are going to smash you back when they do). An evil smile came onto his face when he spoke of sales people. Lets face it, he said, you don't care if you buy your next car, tv etc off them, you can go elsewhere (chances are the sales person has moved on anyway), so smash them. Be the worst customer they have for the month. Cut through their 'I just have to speak to the boss' with a 'If you don't have the authority to make the deal, I want to speak to the person who does'. If they have 13990 on the car, offer them 10k.  Sales people hate it when you low ball them, because they have to work to get your price up, they would much rather you work to get their price down.

If you have the cash in the pocket and are able to do the deal then and there, let them know this, but always be happy to walk away, they have your number, they can (and will) call you with a better deal.

Test drove the white and black ones. Black one has some problems. White one felt pretty good to drive and generally felt like the one to get. BUT these guys insist on 'no room for negotiation', so the i30s are stuck at $13990. I don't mind this too much though as they are very god quality in comparison to the 1.6L range I looked at at another dealer. Still haven't settled on a car though.

I know it's hard, but I wouldn't accept that.
If a dealer won't negotiate then they're not going to look after you later either.
Sorry if that's not what you want to hear, and you do whatever feels right for you, but if a dealer said that to me I'd be saying thanks but no thanks.

Sorry, but realistically, do they, or you, expect to walk in and pay their price, without negotiation. Sorry, but that's where you give them your number & tell them that you WILL be buying a car in the next few days, but probably not with them, then walk out & wait.

What Dave and Phil said! That is bullshit (I guess they know you are young and inexperienced - no offence meant.)

Glad you didn't sign on the dotted line, then and there (at their price)

There is always room to move.

Stand your ground, and wait.  :whistler:

someones having a huge lend of you, beleive me when I say they do have wiggle room, their profit margin is most likely between the 2 to 3 K mark, fleet vehicles for a car yard are cash cows, like Dave said if their not prepared to deal and negotiate now, they are certainly not going to look after you once you have handed over you money.

Cairns is not that far from Townsville, mind you it aint that far from Brisbane either, I suggest you look further afeild, even if you save $800 to a $1000, thats a fair bit to getting back to Cairns in fuel, but again your choice,I certainly wouldn't be paying sticker price

That would have been the Used Car Dealers Squad (Traffic), not Motor Squad (C.I.B.)
We did all the stolen cars, chop shops, insurance frauds, etc.
The years are about right though.  ;)

New problem!

Am I spending too much money for a first car? $13990... I could get a 2005 Ford Fiesta for $9990 (Private sale)... The benefit of getting the i30 is the remaining 3 years worth of new car warranty and the 5 star ANCAP rating. I also fell in love with it when I sat in/drove it. I could go ahead and get the i30 tomorrow but is it too much?
