Continuing from the Big Bang is the accelerating universe. This means that the outermost boundary is moving away from us at a faster rate all the time.

I just have to ask,

If an ice skater spins on their central axis and gradually moves their arms out, the rate of spin decreases but the sphere of influence increases, due to angular momentum, so in the universe, if the outer boundary is expanding in all directions like a balloon, where does the energy to fuel the acceleration of the boundary, come from.

Holy cow my head is really starting to hurt now,you blokes have to much time on your hands

Maybe we are part of a multiverse? Or did I just open another can of worms (or strings)?

Actually we are just an ant farm in the collection of some largish alien being's backyard zoo.

I have often wondered exactly the same thing.

Space is said to go on forever.
But nothing can go on forever.
If it does, I ask again, what is beyond the boundary of space?

You can't derive an infinite answer from a finite mind.  :winker:

Exactly.
Which takes me back to my original point.
It is beyond the comprehension of humans.

To answer your statements, Dave.

No it doesn't.

Yes it can.

Gonz, I tried reading that, but as expected I easily got lost, however, could the universe expand and derive the energy the same way a balloon would expand if it was subjected to a vacuum from the outside. Is this what the text was saying, or have I unexpectedly discovered the answer.  :p

Sorry Dave. My late reply to your earlier post with me using Tapatalk.

Space isn't said to go on forever, our known universe has a boundary.

Why can't something go on forever? I know Mrs FatBoy's nagging seems to...

I was invited to hear Flinders University's annual science lecture, this time given by Australia's own Nobel laureate for discovering the expansion of the universe. There is no evidence to suggest the universe is infinite. We simply cannot see that far and, given its acceleration, never will.

Why torment yourself with a question that cannot be answered? I know, because we're human, cursed with - to quote Genesis - the 'knowledge of good and evil'.  :whistler:

Life's too short to ponder these questions IMHO

After I've had breakfast, the most likely question I will ask myself is what will I have for lunch  :whistler:

I certainly won't be asking myself, is the universe finite or should a 24 hour analogue watch have 24 at the top  :undecided:

You're a hedonist Dazz

I'd heard of that word (but I had to look it up)  :-[

he·don·ism (h d n- z m). n. 1. Pursuit of or devotion to pleasure, especially to the pleasures of the senses.

Yep that's me  :whistler:
