We wait with baited breath Alan...
You can now unbait your breath asa - it was fixed this morning.
I tok it in at 8.30 and they did the job and valeted the car by 9:25
However (and don't all good stories include a sad "however") - the new unit has maps that are 2 years old.
I tried to install the latest maps from the memory stick I bought in March and had fortunately retained - but the install was rejected - because the new head unit has a different identity code and the activation code that came with the maps was inappropriate.
So at 10:30 this morning I sent an Email to KIA customer services to ask for their help. At 12:45 they replied as follows :_
I am pleased to hear that your satnav has now been replaced.
We are happy to cover the cost of the map update as a goodwill gesture as you've already purchased this before. To have this carried out you'll need to arrange this through your KIA dealer. They will then contact us for payment of the map update.
I have forwarded the Email I sent to KIA and their reply, to my dealer. Be aware - I have a Masters degree in pessimism and fully expect to be met with a bit of too-ing and fro-ing between the dealer and KIA customer services before it gets resolved.
The simple solution would have been for KIA to recompense me direct for another map update.
To explore all options I have also Emailed HERE with my tale of woe and asked them for a new activation code FOC - giving them my original order number from March. They replied within 5 minutes to thank me for my message and confirm they will respond within 4 days. I anticipate that this reply will be to decline to give me a new activation code just in case I am conning them and seeking to get free update maps for another car.
You can now bait your breath again asa. More anon.
