@phil c   Mate,  @nzenigma gary and I are discussing the sheared bolt.

I was under the impression it was this the top M6 bolt that locks the adjuster block?

I'm looking at  item 1140FM

Or was it the main mounting bolt 37338C

any images of the sheared bolt?

Hello mate.

Yes bolt 1140FM was the offending bolt. The one that goes through the tensioner block.

Bolt 37338C was the bolt that was involuntarily moving back and forth, causing bolt 1140FM to subsequently fail due to metal fatigue. Don't think I've got an image of the sheared bolt but I will check.

I have found images of said bolt. Didn't think I had one!

Cheers, I must say you must have plenty of patience to replace it 14 times.

This is an Oz petrol GD motor.

Essentially the top bolt is a pivot point.

The alternator has a different set up on the diesel.

Irrespective of the set up, stressing that bolt to breaking point would have me looking hard to make sure you have found the culprit.

Ah yes completely different setup!

I am just glad I found the culprit. As rare of a predicament that it was!

That would be on the 1800 and 2000cc engines?, Just had a quick look and  the GD, GDI 1600 would have the same mounting as this FD I believe.

Promised photo of mod! Notice new square bracket, with weld in the top right corner to hold bolt in situ.
