I'm a bit worried now they are not going to bring in a diesel i45... :'( :'( :'(

It has been released in New Zealand in 2 petrol models

http://www.hyundai.co.nz/new-cars/i45/

EDIT: looks like I'll be keeping my i30 a bit longer...

Global website lists i45/Sonata only with Petrol engines

Hi Dazz, if Hyundai do not bring out a diesel it will be unbelievable, but the reason I mentioned this earlier is because the reports I was reading indicated it would be petrol only.
I hope that is not the case.
Australia is warming to diesels now so they would be stupid in my opinion to bring petrol only into the country.

I put i45 Diesel into google and found an article about the upcoming launch and they seemed to think the R diesel was a likely inclusion.. My only hope is that they will release a diesel maybe 6 months down the track (which would be ok as I would want a 2011 build anyway...)

There has been lots of rumours and hints about the drivetrains of the upcoming i40/i45/Sonata (whatever the number/name  finally proves to be...).

They could not sell it in Europe withouth a diesel, that is a fact. So there will be one.

There has also been talks about a "light hybrid" with an electric motor integrated into the flywheel of the engine.
For US market that will apparently be a petrol engine based model, but at least for me, a diesel based light hybrid would be THE news.

  • 2019 PD2 Go Petrol, Manual. 30,000 kms.
Yesterday I was driving past the Hyundai head office here and saw three new (licensed) i45's and also an i20 parked in the carpark, so I went in and spoke to one of the managers (who was really helpful) and had a look at the cars.
I asked him about whether there will be a diesel and he said that it will be launched as petrol only in Australia.
Maybe 6 or 12 months' down the track they will introduce a diesel, but at this stage it is petrol only.
They are competing with Camry, hence the 4 cylinder, and the car looks very similar to Camry in my opinion, but better both inside & out.
He also said that the cars are pre-production models and haven't even been released to the dealers.
I also asked if the LPG/electric hybrid that is available in South Korea will be introduced here and he said that it won't be. They have had such cars in Sydney under evaluation but are unable to sell it here at a competitive price point.
Apparently a petrol/electrich hybri is likely in the future.
On the i20, they have been waiting to take a look at the quality of the Indian-built cars and he said that Hyundai are very happy with them as they are every bit as good (build-quality-wise) as their other vehicles being sold in Australia.

Thanks for the update Dave...

Once they find out you and I would both be prepared to open our wallets for a diesel i45 I reckon they will change their tune..

I can wait until early next year (but not much longer)

There is a new small Honda sedan driving around Devonport with a similar wave through the bonnet and grill as the i45 (I must investigate the Honda website to see what it is?)

Don't think this review has been posted on here before.. pretty good except some negatives on high speed handling and an interesting (but disappointing comment regarding the diesel option  :-[) Might have to wait for a hybrid

P.S. Spotted a Gun Metal Grey i45 in local showroom today (they were closed) Going to check it out 2moro and possibly test drive  Looked yummy through the window

The Hyundai Oz site now has a proper page for it.

No diesel at this stage, possibly forever (NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!)

1 reason being is that we have the US spec model. Only the Euro spec has diesels.

Along with this US spec is dodgy US ride and handling (which I have already seen reviews go to town about)

About the only good thing engine wise is that the US spec also have a turbo petrol 2.0 and a hybrid petrol. So we might get them down the track.

Manual transmission doesn't get cruise control. But Manual is only on bottom spec.

The engine isn't too bad for a petrol and the auto is a cracker except for towing ability. It can only haul 400kg unbraked, 800 braked and 80kg at the ball.

I still have hopes for an i45 Diesel (it's the only i45 I will get) but I think we'll be waiting until next year at least. Otherwise I'll be defecting to the Mazda 6.

The ad was actually filmed in Australia and isn't CGI, it's a computer controlled spray system to create the water images.

I got to have a look at one in Newcastle yesterday and it did look awesome inside and out, but it's takes more than just a pretty face to get me going..........

Wow this has turned into a bit of a rant, it wasn't meant to be, but I think after being disappointed by the ix35 I'm annoyed that I feel like I've been let down again............

Regards

Daniel

Scary Stuff Daniel..

That is almost word for word on how I feel

I am going to wait until early next year and would consider a Hybrid if no diesel (subject to pricing and driveability)

At this stage the Mazda 6 would be my next choice (and now there is a Subaru Outback Diesel but getting mixed reviews for response and a bit dearer than the i45 would likely be and dearer trhan the Mazda as well)

Went and had a look at the Gun Metal Grey i45 (Elite Model) at the local Devonport Dealer today and while the wife and I were suitably impressed we thought it would look better in Silver or White...

Were going throgh to Launceston (some 100 kms away) and decided to detour past their Showroom up there.. and guess what (they had a white Premium model with tinted glass roof)

The top model in that colour has real "presence" we LOVED it...

Here is me with the car ...

and a better one without me :-)

Couldn't cadge a drive as they were in the middle of product trainingall the northern sales staff...

I was so impressed with the car inside and out (looks much better in the flesh) that I would EVEN consider a petrol model (if no diesel or Hybrid comes out)

NOTE: Also had a look at the Suzuki Kizashi. Top model is very nice but not as Pretty as i45 and the base model is really bland...

No Diesel: No Deal !!

It's just a Camry Clone without a CRDi.

Fair call, I'm still quietly confident either the i45 or the Kia Magentis will come out with the R diesel by the time I'm ready and I have got the Mazda 6 Diesel wagon as a backup

Good idea the new Sante Fe does not appeal to me looks wise (and getting a bit dear) and while I like the look of the ix35 no manual CRDi version

I am prepared to go to around that figure (but not much higher) the Sante Fe STARTS at about $41,500 i think ...

I would expect an i45 diesel (say mid range model) to be A$36,000 TO A$38,000 on the road..

The base model manual 2.4 petrol is going to be only around A$30,000 ...

Nice pics Dazz!
As I said in an earlier post, the Hyundai guy I spoke to over here at the WA head office said although petrol only for now, possibly 6-12 months down the track for the diesel.
They are pretty classy though aren't they in the flesh?

Thanks Dave,

The ideal car for you I know how you like Leather Upholstery and Sunroof

The black roof really sets the white car off (look good with silver too I reckon)

I would be happy with a lesser model with a manual box and similar specs to our i30 SLX

Wife finds leather too cold to the touch in winter down here...

I believe no cruise in Manual model at this stage

Hopefully that will change by next year too
