They were developed for turf tyres and off road applications.
Used to say so on the packaging.

They dry out and leak Over time. Have had to re repair numerous ones of those.
They will also   void most manufacturers warranty.

I originally found them widely used in the USA (late 1980s) and brought a kit back.
I heard the Oz tyre companies were against them but the "numerous ones" you repaired were done by mechanics not Joe public.  I suspect they did not use the vulcanising fluid as demonstrated.
The newer plugs have a different composition. Personally never had or seen a failure.

Failed repairs were done by numerous tyre dealers who thought they were God's gift.
But shortcutting by not removing the tyre for an internal inspection for damage is where the system fell down.
Incidentally, my son had a puncture on his work trailer when we were on our way up to Muskoka for a show.
He took it in to Canadian Tire while we were in Nova Scotia.
I checked it when we got back.
They repaired it properly.

Hi Heidi,
Great post looking to do the same to my I30N will it work for I30N? and what the biggest tyre on 18 inch wheel for spare wheel you can have?

Any feedback would be great.
