Went out this morning to do a short ride, 12 miles, but somehow ended up doing near on 20 and ended up in Chester which is 25 miles from home!!

The idea was to jump the train to Hooton, I travel free with my over 60's travel pass and the bike is free, and  then cycle back along the wirral way, 12 miles. but...............

2 miles from Hooton I decided to drop down to the River Dee, 2 miles, to look out over the marsh across to wales.

They have put in a "boardwalk" across the marsh into Wales so decided to give it a go.

Next thing I knew I was at Shooton, just 3 miles.

There is a tarmac path along the side of the Dee which takes you into Chester.

So off I go thinking it is only a few miles as I could see the city in the distance.

Well 13 miles later I'm in the centre of Chester.

Now do I cycle home, 25 miles or do I get the train.

I got the train.........and had a well deserved rest.......

Bike's been off its hooks for the last week, decked out with new repair kit and computer totalling $10 of investment, done 50k last week, 25k yesterday and 16k in and out of the city today to broadcast my live radio hour. :victory:

Ahhh wonder if anyone would spot the discrepancy.

It all due to the road configuration and the circular cycle routes

20 miles as the crow flies = 25 miles as the roads meanders.

Also, as I jumped the Train to Hooton I was calculating the distance I was going to travel from the start point, Hooton, and not home....

Off out later for a gentle 15 mile ride.

As the weather is hotting up here may require a few stops to take on liquids........

Fat Bike interesting but built for snow or sand & would be expensive & hard to get replacement tyres & tubes i'd imagine. my wheels & tyres look to be larger diameter @ 29" & are 2.2" wide big profile mountain bike, my other bike has metric wheels tyres big & skinny. the Mountain bike has hydraulic front end to handle rough downhill tracks, that fat bike is ridged.

well tomorrow the group is doing a 51k dirt road & track ride no pub's no cafe's it's into wilderness, big hill's too.
Have not ridden much the past week  did 16k & got wet yesterday afternoon, will do a ride this morning & this afternoon to prepare as it's not so much the distance it's the size of the hill's or mountains we ride up & down & they are rough dirt tracks.
cheers

I have ridden my bike so much over the last few months i now need 2 new tyres.

Not showing canvas yet but the tread is just visable on the back so i now have slicks so no going thro' puddles!

Price vary so much from £9 to over £40 but wonder if i buy dear will that make much difference. Doubt it!

Any pointers from the pushie crew

You must ride at a fast pace?
or use the brakes hard?
i have not warn any tyres out yet, don't think the slicks last longer they just have less rolling resistance but just for smooth paths not good on wet or mud, i used them about ten years back. tyres are around $50 here
