The workshop's looks old and dated compared to the showrooms. Don't know if all workshop's are built to the same spec across all locations, looked small and cramped.

Question for Tim, how are the job times [ do you have them] can they be easily completed in time.

Can't comment on service not had one done since ownership. But when I first got my used car they said it had a full 20000 mile service, I don't know if they're suppose to remove the wheels or not but when I was fitting the mud flaps I had to use a rubber mallet to get all 4 wheels off? clearly not been removed since new.

Just the general feedback on here from UK owners with warranty claims and parts orders etc.. hasn't been "glowing".

Aussie feedback has been slightly better but still not stellar in most instances.

I think you'll find that with other manufactures not only Hyundai, different dealership's may have better customer service's and more knowledgeable technicians. I don't know how it works nowadays but in my day the workshop manager would get a memo saying that there was places available for a mechanic to go down to the training centre usually where the plant was on a weeks coarse, be it engine / gearbox or autobox and he would send someone who's not done one of them courses usually a new mechanic thats started. Apprentices normally went on their final year as they where normally under our supervision and you teach them what you learnt, you might go on one maybe once or twice a year and certainly when a new model came out.

Warranty times.......forget about it.

Nothing's changed with warranty times, Rover SDI V8 remove one bank and fit new head gasket = 40 minutes. We use to hate being allocated warranty jobs because you could loose most of your bonus if not all for the week if you got a few warranty jobs

Bonus is that thing that less skilled workers get for doing the easy jobs. I've not received monthly bonus yet. It's a sore spot to me and a couple of others.

Don't know how warranty costings work or bonuses, not in that industry, But I don't like the ideal of a technician being preoccupied about his bonus.

A bonus gives them an incentive to skip tasks on a job and introduces the problems of gaming, solely to achieve targets. This is where problems occur. The problem is that an honestly run workshop will be at a competitive disadvantage to one that skips tasks on jobs to get through more jobs in a day...

It also has advantages for the customer regarding costs. Each job as a given time to complete the task.
One example. To replace a Jag XJ6 engine, the book time is 8.9 hours the .9 equates to 56 minutes, and that what's the customer gets charged. Another example where a job doesn't go to plan.
Did a insurance job on a Land Rover where there was a small fire under the bonnet, I had to carry out a inspection and see what parts needed to be replaced, I give the list to the receptionist who then cost's the parts and labour time, I get the go ahead to do the job but I come across a problem on one of the parts I fitted which was a flexi brake pipe, when I came to bleed the brakes I could not get a good brake pedal. tried different ways of bleeding it but still a crap pedal, in the end I stripped down the master cylinder and found the first circuit main piston seal had deformed possibly to the heat, took a total of about 3 hrs to rectify but the extra cost was a master cyl and labour charge to replace cylinder not the full 3 hrs.

So it does have it's advantages to the customer and not always for the mechanic
