about bloody time

Actually what they stated is wrong, it was 54mph on motorways not 50

I was going to post a msg about speedo accuracy because the other night i tucked in behind a HGV on the motorway and my speedo was showing 62mph and I thought my speedo was incorrect so that clears that up

The article doesn't mention motorways where the limit  was 60mph on motorways and still is.

The old limit on dual carriageways was 50 mph not 54 mph.

EU regs for speed limiters set the maximum speed to 90kph or 56mph so, in theory, the actual limit cannot be achieved other than downhill.

Rick do you have electronical  speed limiters or just governors with the locking wire and seal cap? If you have the electronical one's have you tried bypassing it with the ignition key trick?

The company I drove for had them set at 54mph for fuel efficiency, 2mph dosn't seem much but when your averaging 7 to 9 mpg it does make a difference. and if you went over 54mph you was hauled into the transport manager

Never mind the limiters it's the trackers that are the killer.  Company knows exactly where you are and what speed so 35 in a 30 is easily detected.

Many large companies have 50/52/54 limits for fuel efficiency reasons so the new legal limits may get rid of some of the 'elephant racing' on dual carriageways.

I used to know someone in Beckenham who built chips to bypass the limiters for many of his interstate trucking friends :whistler:

A little story about speed limiters in the states.
Back in the 90's i was going to move to California, I use to spend 2 months a year over there, so on one trip I saw a advert by Stevens Transport based in Texas in the local rag doing a Drivers seminar looking for drivers, so I decided to go along and see what the company was all about, I had already been to another company and spoke to their Transport manager about applying for a driving position.
Anyway one guy in the room asked about if their vehicles had limiters fitted, he said once you pass your CDL you then do a 5 week training course with a instructor, your paid a minimum wage  during this 5 weeks it wasn't much about a $150, and your semi is restricted to 65mph but when you've completed and passed the course your truck goes back into the workshop and is opened up, I thought  hipee  :happydance: this is the company I want to work for only problem is your away from home for 5 weeks at a time with 1 week off and no guarantee that the week your off they can get you home but the wage was up to $1650 a week
