Having more than a passing interest in the world of advertising and changing perceptions, the transformation of Hyundai has been astonishing and in large part the i30 has been responsible for that.

I can remember not more than 2 years ago having a conversation with Mum when she said to me she was interested in buying a secondhand Excel. I can't recall the exact words I used, but I do remember being less than complimentary. Let's face it, they were built to a price and people willing to pay that price lapped them up. A successful car certainly, but one anybody with higher standards would avoid like the plague.

To go from that attitude to wanting to buy a Hyundai says something for how good the i30 is. I thought I'd be a Corolla man for life but I can't see why you'd buy one these days.

Who would've ever thought you could get a car like the SLX CRDi auto for under 30 grand with 5 year unlimited km warranty? Hyundai says they're generous in their ads and when you see the included features, you can only agree!

Props to everyone involved in the forum - it's answered a lot of my questions and made me even more confident that I'm choosing the right car.

Hi Rodin.. Welcome to the club...

A beautifully worded introductory posting..

We may be biased but the very great majority on here are very happy with their i30s and the Diesel owners are mostly ecstatic

Hello and welcome Rodin.

My story is much like yours, I have been turning away from Hyundai several times and for a long time - but for everyone's surprise ended up to order one. I really did look for good reasons not to buy Hyundai i30cw, just could not find any to turn away any more.

So, I decided to go wild and give it a chance. We've got approx. 10 weeks delivery time and I'm currently on week 10... very excited and waiting for the call.

The problem is that when I/you/all of us go to buy another Hy they will increase the price as I/you/all are hooked on the brand.

PS Welcome Rodin

Hi Rodin, welcome to the club. felt pretty much the same as you until my wife needed a new car in 2008. looked at everything, settled on an i10. told the dealer I'd be back for an i30 one day. I pick it up tomorrow.  :)
