Sorry diesel. And yeah, we tried turning over until it started up.  Otherwise I would've had to have waited 1+ hours for RACV to show up and 'tow me' away from where I was parked.

Sorry about that m8, you can restart them without bleeding fuel like you had to with old diesel's. my nephew ran out the first week of ownership of a diesel Auto, he has a Nissan Navara 2.5 common rail diesel, fuel filter top looks same as my i30 CRDi, it may not look like it but on top of the Diesel Fuel Filter there is a button, you push down on it a few times. we went and got 5 Lt's of Diesel and could not start it, we pushed the button at the top of filter still would not start, so he phoned Nissan 24 hour road side assistance they told him it needs to be parked on level ground, it was facing down hill, so we pushed it around to make it level. pushed the priming button a few times and it started, Nissan said the common rails are self priming but has to be level. Nephew has sold that navara to his best mate, and is getting a new one the same, was his first diesel now he loves them.

The Australian i30 site shows that tanks are 53litre capacity. visit the web link below for the table on fuel consumption.

Some of our members have got close to 60 litres into a nearly empty tank (the neck of the filler must have around a 6 litre capacity)

I am not advocating everyone does this but these same members have got up to 1400 Kms out of a tank of diesel by doing this on country road trips...

As for the offical ADR economy figures in the real world (for the manual diesel) they vary a lot depending on driving conditions and range from under 4 LPH in flat old South OZ to over 6.5 LPH in other conditions....

The on board computer does not appear entirely accurate, it reads about 1.5% optimistic, the odometer reads about 2.5% short; most other vehicles are not even that accurate. My 6 spd 1.6 CRDi, has no Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).
I have measured 32mpg around town and an overal average of 52mpg by measuring the amount of fuel I have replaced in the tank, ie. the actual useage, not the EU published method of measuring emissions ie. in a laboratory, on a rolling road at an artifically constant (warm) temperature with abnormal wind resistance.
The car is, overall excellent - you can afford to get lost! - Unlike the Mercedes & Jaguars I used to drive. The most sensible car I have ever owned.

As well as my 6 spd i30CRDi (No DPFilter) I have a 5 spd i20 CRDi as well (No DPFilter), which only gives another 2.5 mpg. The on board computer is not as accurate as the i30.
Another Far East Car Manufacturer is demanding correct published fuel economy reports. Some European vehicle manufacturers are over optimistic when publishing their figures - to their obvious sales advantage.
Another vehicle I own has a very accurate fuel computer (it drinks fuel). For example a 10% inaccuracy at 22mpg makes little difference (2mpg), but 10% of 65 mpg is a lot more. One European model is over 20% inaccurate, but at 22mpg you hardly notice since it also has a large fuel tank, and it isn't until you fill it up.......
The Press may shortly reveal the most and least accurate figures, based on stringent, sensible & practical tests carried out in the UK, (without using aircon).
As I said earlier the i30 CRDi comes out as one of the leading vehicles.

Hi Pika,
I was like you when i first got my i30. I could never get 1000k to a tank. I worked out there two reasons why. First, on the occasions I attempted it, we were usually heading away on family trips. The car was packed to the breaking point with kids, the dog and everything plus the kitchen sink. Also we would tend to be in somewhat of a hurry to get to our destination, screaming kids and so forth, you understand so we would tend to push the speedo somewhat north of the speed limits rather than the 90-110k that would better aid fuel econ in the i30. I would go close to 1000k but never quite got there. Than, like others here have pointed out, I discovered that filling to the first click was not really filling the tank at all. I understand you had a spillage and yes that could be messy, but it worth being patient and filling her right up. In my experience it is possible to get an extra 10L after the first click. After the first lick, I lift the nozzle so it is just sitting in the fill up tube so i can see the fuel as it froths up and stop it just before it bubbles out. It times and patience, but you can squeeze a bit more in time and again until you can see the diesel settle near the top.
I dint always go to the trouble unless I want to attempt a the magic 1000k.
I have achieved the fete maybe half a dozen times with a record of just over 1100.

1000km is achieved on the open road, good long trips. 880km is average for stop-start and short driving. Air con makes no apparent difference to either. I fill up every four to five weeks.
