Never had a key break but this is currently the state of my car key. To me this is poor design as my son in law drives a VW Passat and its keys have aluminum press buttons not thin rubber ones. I'm hoping it's a warranty item as my service is due soon.

I saw your link for a new cover but it says they don't post these to the UK. I will just have to try the warranty route and if that's a no no I will try to source this item locally.

I found this locally:

:link: Flip Folding Car Replacement Remote Key Shell Case Blank Fob for HYUNDAI i20 i30 | eBay

Has anyone ever transferred these bits to one of these shells and how easy is it?

Also from the damage to my current key are there as appears to be two missing springs or something as I can currently trigger the remote function by poking inside with the point of a biro etc. Are these supplied with the blank?

Thanks in advance

That fob looks like it's been chewed by a rottweiler

Well good luck with the warranty claim - some members cannot even get prematurely worn door seals replaced under warranty.

I have an ebay replacement on hand but n requirement to use it yet. There is a utube vid on how to do the transfer. It's a little fiddly, but definitely worth it.

Don't think it is a design issue as after 4 years (wife's car) and more than 2 years (my previous i30) no wear at all... I think many others are in the same boat (as me) My roller door key on the other hand.... (But fortunately they are cheap on the internet)

Good luck with the warranty claim, I had no luck with mine...

In my case they just trotted out the normal Hyundai response...."that's fair wear and tear"
Oh, they also blamed my finger nails....  :head_butt:

I bought one of these which actually came as a pair of replacement remote covers for £4 and followed the above video. Within under five minutes my key fob was back in full operation. The packet as I said came with two covers so if my or my wife's key ever need it I have a spare.

As for the warranty the garage asked for pics of the damaged key fob plus pics of my reg number & the mileometer which I supplied so they can forward them on to the warranty insurers so I will keep you posted reference the outcome there.

Lester, it would be the old "wear and tear" disclaimer ....

I would use - fit for purpose - if within warranty period.

Outside,, yes wear and tear.....

Never thought of that "fit for purpose" so I will try it and see how it goes. The car is 2012 so the warranty should be fine. I returned to it in the supermarket car park and it was torrential rain. Inside I noticed there was a slow drip of water just below the passenger side sun visor onto the edge of the seat hence the bit about the window seals.

They can't say that's wear and tear so I await their reply to that and I will ask at that stage about the key issue

Slightly late to the party - regarding AU suppliers - there is also HYUNDAI-i20-i30-FLIP-KEY-REMOTE-REPLACMENT-BLANK-SHELL-CENTRAL-LOCKING at about ~$11.50 inc postage.

I just used the keypad, and it's frame (it stubs will push fit nicely), swapping them over - the keypad did seem to be a little 'prouder' at the back (unlock end) by a very small amount (also hard to be certain when comparing against 4 year old keys).   No issues caused by that it seems.

The 'trick' is - the original frame for the keypad has it's stubs used as 'plastic rivets' (ends melted and splayed) to the rest of the case - needing some leverage... as shown in the video.
