Okay.. so i HATE the dealership i purchased my lovely i30 from.

I've had my baby for over 6 weeks now and they still havent sent out my $500 fuel card that i got as part of my deal. Even after a abusive letter saying i'd take my servicing elsewhere if i didnt see an improve in their after sales customer service.

Now i traded in my old Falcon when i bought the new shiny i30, and when i traded it in i signed transfer papers into the dealerships name.

However i get a call last week from the guy that must have bought it asking about service books, i asked him how the hell he got my number and said the dealership had my name AND address listed as previous owner on the car and that he looked my number up in the phone book. I'm pretty sure they are not legally allowed to disclose any of my personal information to any future buyers? Shouldnt it be the Car Dealerships details listed as previous owner?

I called Vic Roads (Im in Victoria) to confirm and they seem to think they did a dodgy and that i should call the manger and in their own words 'let loose'  :?

ALSO.. if i do cut loose i really dont want to be sending my car to get serviced there.. can i still service it elsewhere without affecting the 5 year warranty? Help?  :?
Curious to know which dealership it is, i had great service from mine pre-sale, but after sale sucked! To answer one of your questions, you can get your i30 serviced at any Hyundai dealership and it won't affect your warranty - just make sure you get the mandatory services (every 15,000km). I don't get mine serived at the same dealership i purchased it from.

Cheers....

Cranbourne Hyundai - I got talked into it on their opening day, so its a relatively new dealership. Service was great until i handed over the cheque.. then it was pretty much non exsistent! Im a bit worried about having it serviced elsewhere.. cause the nest most convenient hyundai location is Dandenong (which is basically where Cranbourne branched off from and has many of the same employees going between dealerships) and I'm worried they still wont do a good job if they know about my letters and phone call as an angry customer. It sucks.. its like if you ask a resturant to take your meal back because it was disgusting, you wouldnt order there again because you'd be scared they would spit in your soup. SO FRUSTRATING.

Girmadness,

Your dealer might not have given your information at all. He may have got your name from the owners manual which usually has the first owners name an  details from the original sale of the vecicle. This may not be the case either, but its just an idea.

The guy that called, said he got my information from the dealership, said it was displayed on a peice of paper with the price of the car and details ect, said that my name and address was listed as the previous owner, the reason he called was because the owners manual was not in the car, i still had it!! I left npthing in the car at all which could link me to it. He was really nice about it and i said i'd drop the manual and service history around for him.. but im really pissed at the dealership for giving out my info.

Ah ok. I dealt with Essendon Hyndai, they had the best offer i could find at the time.

What about Frankston Hyundai, that's not too far from Cranbourne? Or is there a Hyundai near where you work? I take mine to a dealership near work, nice and easy that way.

Cheers...

The piece of paper you refer to with the price etc and your details is the Schedule which is a legal requirement of ALL used car dealers.
Nothing dodgey and certainly nothing to be pissed off at the dealer for :roll:

Okandyay,

Where are you from. I see this is your first post, welcome aboard. :)
Used cars sold here in Australia have to carry what we call a section 20 which inludes the build date, vin numbers and the kilometers travelled. I am sure it doesnt include previous owner details though. I would of thought including such details would be an invasion of ones privacy.

Adelaide.
Invasion of privacy..? When the same if not more details are in the owners manual and service book?
The dealers have no say in it , it is a legal requirement to show the previous owner on the schedule.
I used to put the owners name and suburb only.

It might be different in South Aus, but here in the ACT the section 20 does not inlude these details.
The owners manual does have personal details so i guess it would be up to the owner trading the car to remove such details from the books before trading the car.

Umm.. i found this:

Motor Car Traders Act 1986 - SECT 52 Particulars to be displayed

52. Particulars to be displayed

(1) A motor car trader must not offer or display for sale, or authorize or
permit to be so offered or displayed, a used motor car (not being a commercial
vehicle, veteran motor car, vintage motor car or classic and historic motor
car) unless there is attached to that motor car a notice in the prescribed
form containing the required particulars.

Penalty: 10 penalty units.

(2) The following are the required particulars-
   (a)  the name and business address of the owner of the motor car; and

   (b)  if the owner of the motor car is a motor car trader or special trader-

   (i)  the name and address of the last person registered as the owner of the
        motor car under the provisions of any Act or law, whether of Victoria
        or of any other place, relating to the registration of motor cars, who
        was neither a motor car trader nor a special trader; and

   (ii) the name and address of the last owner of the motor car who was
        neither a motor car trader nor a special trader (if those particulars
        are known to the motor car trader);

   (c)  if the motor car is equipped with an odometer, the distance travelled
        by the motor car entered by the motor car trader in the dealings book
        when the trader acquired the motor car or received custody or
        possession of the motor car for the purpose of sale (as the case may
        be);

   (d)  except in the case of a motor car offered or displayed for sale at a
        public auction, the cash price of the motor car;

   (e)  the year of first registration of the motor car;

   (f)  the model designation (if any) of the motor car;

   (g)  such other particulars as are prescribed.

(3) If the Director is satisfied that-

   (a)  a used motor car has been brought from a place outside Victoria for
        the purpose of sale; and

   (b)  any of the required particulars are not available to the motor car
        trader-

the Director may, by notice in writing, direct that such of the required
particulars referred to in that notice need not be contained in the notice
required by subsection (1) and the omission by a person of those required
particulars does not constitute an offence against the provisions of
subsection (1).

(4) A person must not insert, or authorize or permit to be inserted, in any
notice under subsection (1) any statement or representation that is false or
misleading in a material particular.

Penalty: 10 penalty units.

(5) If a motor car is offered or displayed for sale by a licensed motor car
trader on behalf of another motor car trader and the licensed motor car trader
complies with subsection (1), the other motor car trader is deemed to have
complied with that subsection.

(6) On the sale of a used motor car to which subsection (1) applies, the motor
car trader must ensure that the purchaser signs a copy of the prescribed form
referred to in that subsection and, subject to and in accordance with the
regulations, must retain the copy.

Penalty applying to this subsection: 10 penalty units.

So i guess that means the dealership IS allowed to do this.. how annoying. I really don't think that they need my Name and Address.. but apparently it's law?

I can imagine how you feel.. Have you insisted on talking to the Dealer Principal face to face or by phone? Threaten to get consumer affairs or the ACCC involved that will do the trick.

Or refer them to this thread (If that was my business i would lift my game if a club like this was discussing my tardiness)

If their after sales service is that bad you will be one of many to complain. I doubt the staff that float between the two dealerships will even click who's car it is.

You can use an independent service centre as long as they use genuine parts and do everything by the book.

Good Luck m8

Was the fuel card something from the local dealer, or a national promotion.
I know from buying printers etc with casback it can take a few months, it may actually be the fuel company that send it out. As this is the only valid complaint you have listed, an abusive letter seems pretty harsh.

In UK the Registration Book contains details all about vehicle.
The format was change a few years ago to be European compliant. i.e. same details required to be declared /enteredfor vehicles supplied in all European states.

It shows number of previous owners but only name and address of last owner.
