I only do when the missus is in the passenger seat

Suffered the indignity of the car locking itself with me on the outsideand the keys still in the ignition on the inside, last Sunday.I was trying to find an address in a rural area so I pulled over to get directions from a guy working in a paddock. Turned the engine off, left the key in the ignition, closed the door and went over to speakto him. Spoke for a few minutes and returned to the car only to find all doors and hatch securely deadlocked.I had to call the wife who was about an hours drive away, and get herto bring me a spare key. She wasn't happy.Fortunately the guy woking in the paddock had a few beers with him and as I waited for the wife he was happy to share some beer with me as we discussed the qualities of the i30.I have tried to replicate the situation (with spare key handy) but can't get it to happen again. Unless someone can offer a lucid explanation, this suggestion that a wireless transmission can be progagated by an telephone is well... the most rediculous thing I've heard for a while. I know that a mobile (cell) telephone does transmit by wireless but we are here talking of another wireless transmission being received directly and retransmitted. This much is almost believable due to an signal overload perhaps intermodulating the mobile phone data (this is in itself fanciful) but at the other end... the receiving phone...what will retransmit the RF signal from this mobile phone that the car receiver can accept? The receiving "end" of a mobile phone conversation does not retransmit any RF signal that it receives (unless I'm very mistaken) but instead simply extracts the audio data, reconstructs it and blows it out the speaker. Which part of this audio (now air pressure only) will be heard by the wireless receiver in the car?Anyone know why I'm wrong?A question for anyone who reckons this works: How far away was the calling phone/remote fob when the test was conducted from the car?
No offence but gee some of you guys are hard heads. :o. I know both the ECU reset (and more so the unlocking procedure) seem improbable but I think the only way you can debunk either is to try them yourself!

I would be extremely surprised if it works but I'm not going to call Carib a liar..
For now gets me wondering: the same distance and same obstacles, opens but does not close! Why? And with the phone off nothing happened!Regards, carib
As I have been involved in scientific/medical research for about 35 years I don't believe in anything that lacks verifiable peer reviewed scientific proof. For Example:1. Naturopathy2. Homeopathy & Iridology3. Pyschic Healing4. Clairvoyance5. Astrology6. Ghosts7. An afterlife (being dead is the same as before you were born)8. Mediums/Spiritualism9. A bottle with water in it deters dogs from crapping on your lawn10. ECU reset To name a few.
