Hello there everyone!

My mum and her friend have come up with an interesting concept for a new product and I'm just doing a bit of research and seeing who would be interested in buying something like this:

Basically it is a little bear that attaches itself to each side of the door handle and stops little fingers from being jammed. 

Don't feel obligated to look at it but I figured that I would like all sorts of people to give me their feedback

I like the concept and novelty factor but the only point I would like to make is you can't actually close the door shut unless you remove the bear from the handles.

Now once it is removed and the closed door is opened you are back to square one and little fingers being trapped unless the bear is fixed to the door immediately, which may not happen as adults may be doing other things.

I can't remember my kids actually getting their fingers trapped in "normal" doors.  I seem to recall one got their fingers trapped in a door with auto shut/door closure unit as they thought it was a play thing.

Are you talking about fingers being trapped in the hinged side.  If so, I've seen a fitting which covers the gap as the door closes and allows the door to actually close.

Price and placement will have to be researched to make sure it is sold in the right market place.  Baby shops will be the ideal choice.

The adoorabear won't save fingers in the hinge side as the door will nearly be completely closed...

Shambles - Yes it will help to stop the door closing on little fingers but no, you won't be able to completely close the door when it is attached.

Thanks for ur input eye30, yes it will be up to the parent to take it on and off as they go. It will be for a normal hinged door unless the parent is able to attach it to something else. Now ad this isn't my idea I won't be able to go into much more detail than that but I also think that it has other uses as a safety device which mum is yet to send me.. So far it has passed all of the Australian safety standards.

Mum and her friend are taking it to a couple of baby expos I'm the coming months .. I'm hoping it does well

I think mum's friend got the idea from a personal experience she'd had with her toddlers

They'll only do it twice, or three times, or in the case of little boys 127 times.....

I like the look of it, but I can think of better things to spend my money on.....My wife on the other hand, since I say no, she would probably say yes.

I hope it goes well (I really do) but I think at $45 it might struggle (in these tight economic times)

For example a tight ass like me would probably just pinch the idea and modify one of the grankids favourite teddies...

(They need to learn to make sacrifices for their own benefit)

I think females look at these things a lot differently to what males do .. they will often spend money on something like this without batting an eyelid

Seen something similar in shops but not with attachedment to go over handles:

Similar type soft bears/teddies would be £4.99 -£9.99 ($7.90AU- $15.5AU)depending on size.


So $45AU = £29GBP may be too high for UK market

Daz I think you are right - I think I expected that though posting on this site, but there are a few ladies on here also so I thought I might try my luck.

I like it.  Even though my childrren are old enough not to catch their fingers anymore  , I would have loved one when they were little.  Two actually, one for each bedroom.  We don't shut doors in our house, so it would also be a good way to keep the doors open but closed if you know what I mean.  Possible a little pricey, but a great birthday/christening/christmas present from Grandparents, Aunties etc.  I am, I will admit, a bit of a teddy bear fan (when I have enough time, I make them). I think they would appeal to most mums, dads are too concerned with the dollar signs.
