We have a new police car on trial here (but it will be expanded into the fleet) that has practically everything onboard, including number plate recognition technology so as it's being driven along it "reads" all the number plates (both directions) of other cars & scans the computer for anything of interest, eg unlicensed vehicle, stolen vehicle, owner under suspension, outstanding warrants on owner, etc.
Our police cars have been using ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) for years and we also have the same technology on the major entrances/exits to all cities in the UK, they tend to use that for amassing evidence of drugs being moved around.
Sorry to doubt you Dave Gee things have changed.. We used to have a policewoman called "Barb" down here and she didn't know where she was half the time.. let alone tracking anyone else...
We don't get the upper box in the UK either. Funny how it differs from country to country ?????? Good photos tho, thanks
