Ok, so it would seem that there is a large storm which is going to track directly over the town I am in. I will be trying to ride out the storm with a few friends who have a basement. My primary residence is two floors up so I thought this move prudent. I'll also do my best to gather images and recordings of the event. I like to share!  :P In the event I get blown out to sea never to post again (waits for the cheering to stop) I really like this board! Just had to say it. I hope to update you all on how it was on Monday or Tuesday, it depends on the power outages.

Best Regards to All!!!

I am the Vice President of the Australian Severe Weather Association here in Australia and my organisation and I would be very keen to hear reports from people near and in the Hurricane! Pictures etc would be great! I would love to show my non-profit organisation your pictures if you come up with any if you dont mind?

Bryan.

Good luck to you and all my brothers in New York. I do hope the storm does a big U-Turn and spares you all.

Fortunately, it doesn't seem as bad as first expected (But 11 deaths is still 11 too many)

We have made it home today. Our home is ok, though the same cannot be said for many others in our area. The storm killed our cameras so I think we only have a few images. That's for tomorrow though as we are spent. Thanks all for the thoughts and good wishes. Oh yeah, I almost forgot...the car made it through unscathed with floodwaters a mere hundred yards away.

Much damage to your property?

I take it no fatalities in your area but it looks as if you'll be clearing up for days or weeks.

Indeed we got lucky and the storm fizzled a bit as it passed New Jersey. However, we did receive over 12 inches of rain and there has been extensive flooding. Also, as the storm moved north it re-intensified and dumped larger amounts of rain into the headwaters of the normally small creeks and rivers we have here. The result of which has been continued rising floodwaters and continued loss of life and property. The home I stayed in managed the storm alright, however the home directly next door was crushed by an oak tree, as were many others in the area. All of my direct family made it through the storm (except our rabbit) Also of concern is a newly developed system in the Gulf of Mexico which from my interpretations of all the available charts should track up the coast and dump yet more rain on us. I fully expect hurricane Katia to remain at sea and threaten only Bermuda. Several of my close friends families' homes were damaged, one also falling victim to an oak tree. Oddly enough they lived on Oak street. No injuries however. There are still many communities in New Jersey without power (my brother just had his power restored yesterday). There are also many towns in more northern states which are completely cut off from the surrounding areas and can only be supplied with water, food, and medical supplies through the efforts of the National Guard and their snorkel equipped vehicles. I would like to thank everyone for caring and showing support and interest. Hopefully our tropical season winds down soon. And hopefully the energy is all used up before the cyclone season starts in the Southern hemisphere!

I have found in the past that a little support from other club members goes a long way  :goodjob: You probably didn't hear about it over there but many part of Australia (particularly those that have Tropical and sub tropical climate) sustained similar or worse damage over the last year...

There are a couple of threads on here somewhere...

For example, in Feb 2011 Cyclone Yasi  (a category 4 storm) with winds of 155 mph made landfall on the eastern Australian coast...

I took some time to youtube that cyclone and it certainly looked quite severe. It never ceases to amaze me how something of that magnitude can impact society and we never get to hear of it, and thus cannot help. However I do notice that the news pundits are quick to jump if Jennifer Anniston cuts a loud fart in a cafe in Belgium.  Whatever happened to responsible journalism?

I have discovered recently from various sources that you guys in the USA don't get anywhere near as much info or news about OZ as we do about you ... :undecided:

We get the significant and the not so significant too...(like your example)
