Hi everyone,

I just received papers from my finance company today outlining the details of my upcoming i30.  The paperwork says it already has 20 kms on the clock.  Is that normal for a BRAND NEW car??  Granted, it is also having the windows tinted, so maybe it was done at a different location and they had to drive it there and back.  Still, you'd think they work with a tint company less than 10 kms away!

Anyway, if you can remember, please post the number of kms you had on your clock upon picking your machine up.

Thanks. *thumbs up*

Mine had 25 miles (40 kilometers) but it had been a demo for 2 weeks.

When I first drove it had 6 miles on (10 k) but had been used several times during an open day before I bought.

Wonder if they drive it from the factory to the transit yard/docks in Korea checking for bits falling off.  Then off the ship to transit parking ready for distribution to dealers.

22 miles on my clock. As well as the rolling off the production line mileage, and the testers mileage, she had been taken somewhere for my SupaGard paint protection bake.

From my experience 20 is fairly normal. Can't remember what was on my i30 but previous new cars have been about that.. often called "delivery" kilometres

Mine was at 17km's but one of the service guys gave it away when he said "Oh yeah I drove one of them yesterday, goes really well"......................mine was the only one on the lot that was registered

bez10y
Mine had 20km's on it and the sales guy repeatedly said that it had only been driven into the show room and that's all. After the test drive I added another 10 or so.

12 miles (approx 20km) on mine, seems to be about the norm.

From memory, ouri30 had just 11km on the clock when I drove it out of the showroom.

Part of my work is driving all the new cars off the car carrier ships that come in to my port and it's normal for the cars to have 10km or so on them already and then we add more.  I would say most cars have between 5 - 10kms on the clock before we drive them off.  All we do is drive them to a designated spot on the wharf but depending on what berth the ship is at that could add up to 1km (not much).  Then they are put on the road on car carriers so shouldn't add much more.

So Zef's probably done about 5% of the driving in your car so far...

I think mine had 15k's but i would expect the motor's could be started and run to test them at the factory before going to production line. i might be wrong, but i think that would be how its done.

the good thing is if they have a few k's up you know they work :)

My wife's new i30 was picked up yesterday after many lies from the dealer. It was meant to be trucked down to Parramatta from another dealer in Taree who I was told had it as floor stock, NOT DEMO (which I specifically confirmed with the dealer before I signed the contract). When I did the deal, I was told that the car would be delivered in days, not weeks. Weeks later it arrived only after my constant nagging.

It had 150kms on the clock. I'd expect maybe 20-40 and I'd be happy with that and would not complain, but not this many. It has some minor marks on the paint (nothing that won't polish off), but it had obviously been around and used for a while then cleaned up last minute. That was not the "new" I was expecting, or had paid new car prices for.

Not happy and I will have to continue my argument with the dealer.

Of course the official definition is that a demo model has been registered to the dealer and has proper road plates on it and when it gets sold the registration is transferred, technically making the buyer the second owner. With a "new car" it is only registered first to the new owner and the dealer keeps it as floor stock/display stock/showroom stock/whatever. It can only be driven with temporary trade plates hanging off it which they attach when someone wants to drive it. Curiously, when I wanted to test drive the car in Parramatta, they hung some trade plates on a silver SX CRDI and then last week called me up and asked if I wanted to take a silver one instead of the moonlight blue I'd been waiting for.

Not new - demo, but it depends if you accept the dealers technical definition or the common sense truth. I have attached a photo of the clock when I took delivery of it before I drove it anywhere.

Well, they offered me a detail and a full tank of fuel. Still not 100% satisfied at the 150kms on a "new" car, which they don't "officially" define as a demo model, but I'll get over it and stop complaining.
