Thanks for that Lakes. I actually have one of those on my i30. I first had it on a Renault Fuego...then it was moved to a Toyota Camry...then a Nissan 300ZX...Toyota Corolla and now on the i30. I never had any rust issues with any of these cars. I have bought and fitted one to the Getz too. Not sure if they work but certainly can't hurt...

sounds like a sacrificial annode type setup.   for metal to corrode, you need 3 things,
an electrical current (flow path for electrons)
Oxygen
electrolite. (moisture in the air is enough to provide this)

remove any of the 3 above, and the metal wont corrode.
others include dissimilar metals in contact with each other(galvanic corrosion)

Just looked at Couplertec while waiting for your response. Are you endorsing the product.

Hi 847563,

When you say
Quote
Are you endorsing the product?
besides saying what I said in an earlier post about not having any rust in any of these cars I also said...

Not sure if they work but certainly can't hurt...

I know that there are some who would cry "SNAKEOIL!!!!!!" but I can only speak from the perspective of my own experience with the Couplertec unit which was taken from another car before it went into the Fuego. It is at least 10 years old and it still flashes....does it prevent rust? I like to think that it does.
I put an earlier version of the Cat unit into one of my ex-wive's cars around the same time. The car was in a small prang which left some exposed metal that never rusted in the few years that she had the car (which was longer than the marriage lasted....but that's another story)...

I just shelled-out several hundred $ for the new one which might demonstrate my faith in the product or my wishful thinking. Let's just say..

Maybe they should use your statement in their advertising.  "Your car will last longer than your marriage." Sorry to make light of your situation, hope you understand.

Sounds to me like they do help so I'll consider purchasing one soon. Thanks for providing details.  :)

Yeah....I can laugh about it.....now.

If it keeps going another couple of years I could change it to...

"Your car will last longer than 2 marriages"

Hell....with a claim like that, I'd buy one...

I used to paint fish oil, inside my doors inside all body pannels & under floor mats. it must have worked just stunk like a fish markets for a month or so. i've never had a rusty car yet, might be because i don't keep cars a long time? & always keep them inside over night. never had a car stolen eather.
