Hi folks. New member here, had my 2011 ET for 11 months now. Bought from new. There's a lot on different forums as well as here about the rear creaking noises. Specifically, the creaking in the rear we hear while turning into into a driveway or, in my case, while backing up while trying to park. Creaking sounds like it's coming from the passenger rear. I'm just curious as to how many considered this a normal sound for our cars or is it a problem to be pursued? What has actually been found? I've done a search and have found many different reasons for this. I'm just trying to see if there is one common reason for this. I'm currently trying to have my dealer look at this problem, been hearing it for a few months now.

Hi Madar, welcome to The i30 Owners Club! 

As far as I know the body is stiff, my i30 doesnt creak at all, but for any rear creaking I'd suspect things like hatch hinges & catch, rear seat hinges, suspension bushes, even maybe a little binding of the rear disc pads, back exhaust silencer mount bracket. Try squirting each of these (one at a time) with some silicone spray, that way you can identify the culprit & single it out for some special care & attention!

Hi

I had this creaking from rear, but found out that it was the bracket for the rear seat locking.
I just wrapped some tape around the bracket, not very high-tech, but it works

Why Asa... how could you... I bought a can to fix my steering lock, now I use it for anything that squeeks as it wont hurt anything lol! I suppose its a bit of Jockineese tight waddedness in me

Seems like folks on here do a lot of their own fixing. I guess they're having not so much success with their dealers like me? Sometimes it's just a  waste of my time going there...

Hi Madar.

The reason for me to fix my own car is that mine is a 2008 model, and therefore the warranty is out, and I'm a skilled mechanic, even though I haven't worked as one for many years. So I only put the car to the dealer if it's something I can't do myself.
If I had a car new enough to have warranty, I would let the dealer take care of whatever issues there might be.

I was a mechanic way back in the early 80s, but the pay sucked so I went into electronics. My car is under warranty but the problem is always "no fault found, couldn't reproduce problem" and that's where it ends. Makes me very angry at times to even look at this car. The dealership never asks to show them what I mean which is poor policy in my book. Don't know if it's Hyundai policy, but my last cars were Toyotas and the dealers always went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied. So I end up doing some of my own repairs on my new warranted vehicle.  I've had this creaking problem for  a few months and finally got time to bring it in and it basically got ignored. Then i got my customer survey and I basically crucified them. Still waiting to see if there's any fallout from that. The car isn't bad but I'm ready to trade back to Toyota. Got creaking, back hatch rattling, static AM on the radio, and ocasional pinging and knocking.

That's a shame madar ... That does seem one weakness of most Hyundai dealers (compared to Toyota  )

Best thing for me (so far, touches wood) is that my i30 hasn't had to visit a dealership for any queries or repairs

Hey Madar , Welcome on board.

Have you applied the handbrake just before your maneuver when the creaking starts?
I know with our touring caravan, when we had stopped, and started moving again (It hitches on to the car) you some times got a creaking sound as the handbrake released on it, only thing I can think of. Handbrake cable may be sticking slightly, or pads/discs as you mentioned.
Try and find out when the problem happens, each specific time, see what the common denominator is for the cause, E.g always before reversing up hill etc. Practice it a few times, until you know it happens, even if its a specific location. Then take it to the dealer and hope it doesn't make a fool out of you, even if you have to take it to a location away from the dealer to get it work.

Finally made an appointment at another dealer to have this looked at. I took everything out of the cargo area and pinpointed the noise to the drivers side wheel well. Sprayed the heck out of everthing on the suspension with silicone to no avail, noise is still there. Just dropped it of at the dealer for tomorrow for this creaking and a newly discovered transmission leak. Let's see what happens.

Fingers crossed for you

It amazes me that the dealers supposedly rely on servicing to make the bulk of their money on a car, yet their service is so bad, so you don't want to go there.

I know that warranty work isn't as well paid as charging a million dollars to change some oil, but if you don't get that right why would anyone pay a premium for servicing.

I basically rely on my warranty for major undeniable stuff (engine blows up etc). Because from experience over a number of brands, no one wants to know about a little rattle, that will no doubt take hours to work out, and be worth very little from the manufacturer.

To be fair, most after market places will fail to find various rattles etc. for the same reason.

Put yourself in the dealers shoes. Person rolls up says there's a creak, but I can't show you it's intermittent. Where do you start, remember time is money.

I have a vehicle creak sometimes as I reverse into the garage, I always reverse in and drive out just on safety grounds.  Now if I come at the very short drive at a certain angle just as I reach the brow of the upslope and begin rolling to the garage <creak> just like my old bones.

Now it always happens just at the brow, this is only a little slope no more than the slight pitch of a flat roof.

I have thought about this lots and lots and come to the conclusion that it might be the release bearing (the logic of this is that it always happens as I make a little clutch pressure) I think that I am perhaps just riding the clutch at a point when something makes it creak.

I am not aware of it any other time and there is nothing else of note so I am now in denial about it :-)

LOL, love the video, if only it was that. I believe it has something to to do where the top of the shock is mounted, seems to be stressing the sheet metal around there. Like I said, i took everything out of the back, including all the storage trays, spare tire and cargo cover, I sat in the back and had the wife go back and forth into our parking space and  you cold hear the creaking %100 of the time, we'll see.

I had a noise and couldn't fathom out where it was coming from.
The Hy dealer put it up on the ramps and found it was a bracket (location - below the rear seat) rubbing on the exhaust pipe as the car rocked back and forth.

Get at the back of the car, put the open palm of the hand against the open end of the exhaust pipe, engine off!!!!, and push the exhaust pipe forward and back and see if there is any noise.

It's one possibility. Just got a call from the dealer, they need the car overnight to diagnose the leak, they put a dye in the trans and want to see what's what. Of course, everbody and there uncle drove the car and can't hear the creaking, told them it's more obvious when parallel parking, but jury is still out. Did notice a nice CX-5 on the Mazda lot right next door, though....

I used to have an old Seat that made a slight creaking noise on left hand turns at slow speeds and bumping up and down off my driveway. It turned out to be the wheel alignment that was slightly out even though it wasn't pulling and had no unusual tyre wear.
