Anyone here have any experience of using a Dulux Paint Pod for emulsion painting walls and ceilings.

http://www.dulux.co.uk/products/paintpod/index.jsp

I am wondering whether you think the extra cost of the machine and paint is worth the claimed time and labour saving.

Has anyone cheated the system and found a way of using standard emulsion paint instead of the expensive bespoke stuff?

I am seeking a suitable birthday present for my wife...... (I wish!!!)... :whistler:

We have one in the shed but I think ours is a Wagner? brand. It didn't need special paint.

I found it more trouble than it was worth. It was supposed to be easy clean but was fiddly and messy.

It probably speeded up the application of the 40 litres of plaster sealer the walls soaked up but by the time I got to the top coats I had stopped using it...

I don't think Trish would be impressed if I bought her a present like that  :whistler:

The Wagner one you refer to seems to be a normal open paint roller - but with an internal paint feed. There is nothing to prevent drips. I had a similar unit 5 years ago - splatter and drips were a nightmare.

The Dulux paint head comprises a conventional applicator roller in a housing with a small transfer roller behind it which transfers paint from a chamber underneath the transfer roller onto the surface of the applicator roller. Paint is fed to the roller head via a small plastic tube from the motorised paint pod containing the tub of paint. There is a trigger on the paint head connected to the Paint pod by wireless which controls the paint pump.

When you finish painting you clip the roller head into the paint pod, fill a chamber with 5 litres of warm water and the unit runs through a motorised cleaning cycle to clean the feed tube and paint applicator. I believe you repeat the process with two further sessions of 5 litres of clean water.

I saw a demo in a DIY store and was impressed at how quickly and evenly  it could apply paint to the wall or ceiling without any drips or splatter and how clean everthing was after the cleaning cycle(s).

I asked the questions here hoping to find someone who actually uses one - rather than rely on a demo by an "expert"

  • Sorry, but my karma just ran over your dogma.
Alan, just get her a brush and a tin of paint. You can supervise.

Somebody I know bought one and whilst it was easy to use (despite being quite noisy when he was trying to decorate his flat in the early hours of the morning, well so his neighbours said   ) he said it was a bugger to clean afterwards.

Look here mate - unlike most blokes, who treat their wives like chattels - I like to spoil mine. A brush and tin of paint would not cut it - hence the Dulux Paint Pod which is quite expensive, hence a generous gift.

It will be easy for her to do the ceiling with it without the need for me to buy the optional telescopic extension arm - she can reach using the step ladders I gave her for her last (68th) birthday.

For the money your gonna be spending Alan, ya may as well get a local decorater in to do it.   I mean seriously, how many times do you imagine the paint pods gonna get used, I mean, she's not getting any younger and you'll need all the cash you can keep old of to attract a younger model.

I mean when alls said and done ya have to be serious and plan for the future  :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:
