Sorry about cheering you up, Alan.

It is sad, yes, but I believe that by sharing these stories, the media raises the awareness of the particular disease in the mind of their readers.

I also think these type of stories serve to remind people how stoic and brave ordinary people can be in the face of tragedy. It also reminds people how much worse off other are.

Very sad indeed.
I was listening to the radio the other day and this guy rang up who was in a similar circumstance with his wife who had been in hospital.
The hospital called him urgently as his wife's condition had worsened so he raced there but missed her by just two minutes.
A couple of years since it happened but you could tell in his voice that he hadn't forgiven himself.
These things do raise awareness though I believe.
