I seem to remember some discussion about the high cost of replacing the timing belt in the i30.
In the overall scheme of things it's not too bad, at least using the Repco Auto Tech Quotation system which we do regularly.
It will also print out for you a diagram of how to replace the timing belt.

Here's the list of things.

Air filter element
Oil filter (spin on)
Spark plugs (also done at 30,000 and 60,000))
Fully synthetic oil
Clutch and brake fluid replacement
Timing belt
Labour 3.3 hours.
Waste management fee
Total cost, parts and labour.   $570.43

In my opinion that's pretty good value.

Don't know what Hyundai would charge.

seems good to me

I like to change my own oil and air filter etc as it brings the cost down, and it's relatively easy.  I can't justify paying someone else to do it if I can.

Well you would get the oil and perhaps the parts for that price....

How about supplying the oil & filters yourself, it made a difference to my last service.

$246 for diesel 45,000km if it helps. I supplied oil only and they supplied $70 of parts in that and $142 labour, miscellaneous and tax made up the rest.

Makin & Luby, Heidelberg. Happy with them.  Been twice now. I was less happy with Dandenong/Chadstone but still no real complaints. I stopped going to them because they were significantly more expensive quoting at 30,000km.

I bought my trophy from makin and luby.  They seem friendly but I haven't dealt with the service department yet.

My car is in on tuesday, hopefully they're good!

after seeing the prices of other members servicing I'm seriously considering doing my own services after this one.  i may even use some very strong language in describing to the service manager my disgust in their service prices nearly doubling in the last 18/24 months.  :disapp: our 15,000km services only cost $220 each.

Welcome to the forum,

Don't know where you bought the car from, but that is a significant fault and requires immediate repair. It is actually dangerous on the road like that. The seller should have obligations to repair any faults. Did you not notice this when you tested the car.

Ring Dandenong Hyundai and get a quote for the service. At the same time tell them about your concern with the transmission. The car will still be under warranty and repair should be no cost.

Of course, you can get quotes from other dealers. I'd suggest a dealer and not independant due to the potential warranty claim.

hey sorry if i made it out to be happening all the time , but its just on a few occasion but today i drove it and it was fine , i will however call and ask the mechanics once my service is due in roughly 5000 kz, also a full tank is estimating around 460 ks i though it woulda been more fuel effient

Distance to empty estimate is extremely pessimistic (You will get far more than that)

If the gearbox has problems like you described, don't wait, report it because it won't get better.

my auto in my Ford slipped and stalled all the time, Ford techs kept pushing the car back on the road saying it was fine!

If it's an obvious problem take it to an automatic transmission specialist, they'll be able to diagnose and repair it better than a regular mechanic.  Most independent workshops I know don't do transmission work, they all send their cars to a few specialists for repairs and rebuilds

Try changing the fluid/filter?

it's funny you should say this.  My Ford tranny failed a few times stranding me and nearly causing a couple of accidents, yet they never repaired or replaced it under warranty.  I ended up having to get rid of the car because they refused to work on it.  They had plenty of chances before it got that bad though, and even though it was not a regular auto with a torque converter it developed into this serious problem quite fast

So definitely get your tranny checked out if you think it's screwing around a little, it could be something serious

Call me paranoid, but the thought of loosing drive with a vehicle bearing down on me is not my idea of a good day. It needs fixing straight away.  :fum:
