I would have changed the production line so people like grug would have theirs by now!

Nah, without owning one its hard to comment.  I do agree that a sunroof would have made the SR more attractive.  I would have also like to have seen a different headlight configuration (perhaps along the lines of Thumper's design!), and side indicators built into the mirrors.

Oh, and the inclusion of 'auto up' on the drivers side power window.  My '89 626 had this feature, but many modern cars don't seem to.

Hi Dazz, Yeah I thought that we might have covered this subject before in a previous thread, but its been a while and I thought i might try and strike up a bit of discussion. Its better than TV rigt now.
I am trying to get into the cricket, but there is not much happening to keep me interested. I am sure the Indians are happy though.

Better quality LCD in the dash (the trip odo etc screen) so you can read it in the sun.
More intuitive MP3 firmware in the head unit (like randomise all folders not just one), as well as bluetooth hands free like getz and tucson.
Have the fob tailgate button actually open the tailgate not just unlock it.
Have the SR wheels and tyres as a viable option and not a plain rip-off

The instument colour so I can see the speedo needle in day time.  (OK when lights are on)

Individual trip fuel consumption readout.

For UK one of those folding ariels rather than the static ridged one we get.
  • 1.4 Petrol Active I'm no expert, so please correct me if

Umm, it does. Press random once, it will play random in the current folder.

Hold down the random button untill you hear a beep, then the 'ALL RDM' will light up, everything will be played, random, no matter what folder the song is in.  8-)

EDIT: Oh, instant fuel usage readout to be displayed!

I'd like:

* the power outlets active permanently
* consumption readout on-the-fly (as mentioned)
* better handling of ID3 tags in MP3 files
* door mirror indicators (as mentioned)
* the aircon not to come on when auto climate control selected
* a proper alloy spare

Should have given us the prototype version!

As others say, it would have blown everything else out of the market!

Just look at the front, pure horn!

Eyma that's why you don't work for Hyundai ! you would add weight with the gearbox add cost with the extra's and the car would go up into the more expencive price range. would not sell as well. just what i think.
but i'm sure to get more of the market those options would help. just being Hyundai they need to keep price down to sell.

You're right Eyma.. It was a good idea to bring the topic up again..

As most of us know the Crdi now comes with cruise... I think the 2009 model may very well have the indicators in the mirrors.

The Wagon (CW) seems like a shoe in for 2009.

Even though it's a simple fix don't expect they'll change the instrument lighting or many of our other beefs...

Would be also nice if the SR came with a diesel option... :D

I dont think its up to the Hyundai designers what each model includes, it's more likely the Dealer or Hyundai Aus, UK, IS etc.... who decides what to include in each model, most of the things you all mentioned are available in i30.

What I would like to have additionally in my i30 is:
Auto up/down on all windows,
Automatic dimming rear view mirror,
Electric folding Mirrors,
Armrest for rear passengers.

All of this is available, I could have special ordered my i30 at my dealer, It would have cost more because it would be a special request in the production line.

It's much easier for dealers to sell pre-customized cars,

Is it not possible to customize your i30 in AUS, UK ?

I have all those, but do not recommend the automatic dimming on the rear view mirror. It makes everything look green and very dim.. so difficult to pinpoint exactly how far the vehicle behind actually is. A strange setup, especially if the dimmer has actuated and the car now behind only has sidelights on. You can't see them

I think the thing I would really have liked would have been 6 speed gearbox and a sunroof. I'd really love a better MP3 interface (as stated by everyone else) but I love my eye candy so I'd like a colour LCD that let's you show spectrum analysis of the music as it's being played or a fancy screensaver. The option for LED lights would have been nice too. Hyundai needs a HRT/FPV type division so peeps can tweek their rides with genuine Hyundai gear IMHO...

(Sorry, I started to rant at the end there)

I really like the auto dim mirror and if you end up not seeing behind you one push of the switch and it clears, so I don't consider it a real problem.  I also have the centre rear armrest (with cup/bottle holders), folding mirrors (which I would prefer to work with the igntition rather than a switch), auto windows all round (which I would prefer could be overridden in lock mode by the driver console and not just the fronts).

I also think the 1.6 petrol could benefit from a 6 speed box, however I am unsure as to the performance penalty due to the extra weight)

Pretty minor then, showing just what a well designed, excellent specification car it really is.

Cheers
Brian

Each to his own eh Brian?

I turn off the autodim as soon as it activates. Unfortunately it always resumes in the ON position when the car is next restarted. Agree with the folding mirrors too

Is this on a single fuse?
If so remove the fuse and it won't activate.

I'd like the option to use the radio when the key is removed, mainly for passengers' benefit when filling up with fuel etc.

Don't know of any cars that do that... too much chance of leaving it on and flattening the battery....

With the right rewiring you can, but to pull apart the dash is a complete pain, I don't know how to do it personally, but I do know it can definitely be done.

Cheers

You can just swap the radio wire in the fuse box to bypass the ignition... but it's easier to just leave the key in and the setting on accessories (if passengers are still in the car while you're refilling...) or carry a spare key if you need it while out of the car...

But.. if the radio will work without the ignition on sooner or later you'll end up with a flat battery... 8-)

There is a dimmer switch, I think it is to the right of the dash

Yer know were the dimer switch is ,it does not turn down dim enough for me, also find myself pushing the dark swith on the radio to stop gauge lights and centre console lights shining back in my face.
