+ I went flying last night on NVG
- It doesn't get dark enough to go flying on NVG until after 10pm
+ I flew almost 4 hours last night
- I didn't finish until after 2am
+ NVGs are up there with the gas turbine and GPS in advancement in the helicopter industry

I remebr years ago when I was in the Army and posted to a Reccie Sqn,they used to do the blackout fliying, they would place blackout curtains inside on one side of the Jet rangers, then the flying could be done during the day,sat in there once once they shut the door, holy cow it was black, scary, they obviously don't do that anymore.

They still do it, but only for instrument training.  The pilots side will be blacked out so that he (or she) can't see below the instrument panel, then they wear a "hood" to ensure that they can't see above the instrument panel.  The hood allows the instructor to still see out.  This simulates the experience of being in cloud (which the Kiowas aren't allowed to do) for when the pilots get to the more advanced types.

Bad news, the A/C on my i30 was still playing up, so I had to drive 140 km down to the nearest Hyundai Dealer@ Bega last Monday.  The car was sent to the local Auto Electrician, who spent 5 hours trying to find the leak, again.  This time he reckons he fixed it..dodgy 0 ring in the A/C pipe assembly.   I am not a happy camper and I told the Hyundai Service Manager so.  If it plays up again Hyundai can rip out the whole bloody A/C and put a new one in, what say ye?  :snigger:

I have had the car since new..bought it in June last year. :whistler:

Lester bugger me I'd be peeved as well, you must have bought a Friday built car, same as Cyril, I reckon he was built on a Friday, just annoying little electrical things going wrong with him, they have a new mechanic at Northam,so I listed all the fualts Cyril had again today and it looks like they have finally fixed them :Touch: it's only taken them 14 months to fix the security system, again nothing serious just bloody annoying at times, new brake switch to sort the ESP light, something to do with the self centreing sensor(didn't even know that one was there) couldn't get my bill today,I through a spanner in the works by supplying all my own parts and oil,so they couldn't just punch out a standard bill.

Then while Wade and Adam where both there I posed the question which they couldn't answer, can the Volester twin screw turbo be fitted to the Deisel instead of the standard single screw turbo, to cure the turbo lag problem with the deisels, hoping now the question has been posed I can get an answer,I'd happily fork out the money if it could be done and keep my warranty.

Oh well of to the docotr for me

+ one week closer to a day X, when we fly back home
- wi-fi is not available in a room, so I do use the mobile internet. I am limited to a daily 50 Mb traffic, having reached it the speed is reduced significantly
+ we have got 3 days off, it is the second day today.
+ have successfully passed all tests so far and completed an avionic part in our study, so only mechanical one remains

I pointed out to QANTAS staff that there was an unnatural control surface oscillation during taxiing on a 737-400 I was using.

They didn't appear responsive so I e-mailed them for an answer. When that didn't come I e-mailed CASA and I got a very nice answer thank you very much with a fleetwide amendment to their maintenance schedule.

My speculation that the oscillations were caused by insufficient control feedback damping due to worn bearings was spot on. Not bad for an avionics engineer.  :goodjob:

@Gonz,

Next time you're on a commercial flight you need to say "Hey, is that bit supposed to wobble like that, I think your bearings are stuffed." See how that goes  :D

I hate it when there is an unnatural oscillation in my control surfaces. I would prefer that somebody raised concerns with me and I was able to ease their concerns or fix the fault.

You would have to look at it from QANTAS's point of view. If they stopped a flight every time a passenger thought there was something wrong, then the aircraft would never get airborne.

Also I believe that CASA can't amend service schedules, only the OEM on information from operators and regulators.

You mean there are things wrong with their planes  :scared:

I don't want to scare you, Phil, but there is no such thing as a "perfectly serviceable aircraft".  Every aircraft will have some faults that are "carried forward" until they can fix them (even brand new ones).
