I just received a letter offering me a position at uni to complete a Bachelor of IT. Really happy about this.
After I left high school I went to uni to study IT/multimedia, but the degree sucked balls, I arsed around, failed a number of classes and promptly dropped out after getting a full time job.
Now after ten or so years has passed, and I have a Diploma in IT under my belt, I want to finish what I started.
I'm doing the degree through distance ed and planning on working full time.
Hells bells I'm going to be busy for the next couple of years.

Thanks for indulging in my joy. :) :)

After years of off and on  learning to play the piano ,my grandson who is into his second year at University studying for his Bachelor of Music Degree has inspired me to start again. I feel that at the age of 72 this is my last chance to get it right. I know I will never be an excellent  musician but as it is just for personal pleasure and I now have the time to spare I am feeling quite positive this time.  Fortunately I have a Clavinova piano that allows me to use headphones so that the wife & neighbours  do not have to suffer my practising  :snigger:  Now I am not sure if this comes into the good category , the bad category or the ( both )

Good luck plasticphyte, at least you are not leaving it as late as me to finish what you started. :goodjob2:

Thanks for the well wishes, they're much appreciated.

John B: good luck with your endeavour too :)

Gonz: Haha. Well it was a pretty stupid degree actually. It was "Information Environments", not really an IT degree, but was IT related. Then I transferred to multimedia, which was far less interesting than I thought it would be. The university I went to was far less "hands on" with the learning than it should have been. The focus seemed to be on churning out professional students & grant grabbers than anything else.

- I have ended up with an extremely sore hip after moving some heavy furniture so Trish could shampoo our lounge room carpet.. after several doses of panadol osteo and some arthro-aid cream and heat packs the pain is down from 9 out of 10 to about 5/10...
- Trish appears to have pulled a muscle in her chest trying to put the stuff back..
- neither of us is getting much sleep..
+ we are hoping to pick up 2 brand new cars late next week...

Neppy's on the money. You're both probably unaccustomed to the type and intensity of work and taking it on so suddenly is virtually crippling you. Most of the pain will subside over the next three days but getting into a routine (perhaps not carpet cleaning) every other day will pay off big time.

The worst thing you can do is think gym work is 'not likely' and attribute pain to age. Remember that pain is weakness leaving the body! :victory:

Careful you two, retirement activities can be dangerous to your health. You should use technology to achieve the desired results. Maybe you should look at purchasing some of those furniture slider thingys.

You'll have to rub each others' muscles to provide some relief.
I feel for you.  :(

+ I had a great weekend, a friend of mine from the other side of the country flew down and I had breakfast with her, and we had a costume party last night for a friend's 21st, and a bonus is I woke up with no hangover :p
+ I saw the Hoegh Detroit Autoliner in the port yesterday. Quite a feat of engineering :scared:

Here is a snapshot of it in Durban:

- my friend is going for an operation on my birthday, quite unlucky but unfortunately one cannot plan these things
- I had planned on washing the car this weekend but the weather isn't the greatest and with my luck it will rain the second I finish polishing it

True that! It is a gamble here in Port Elizabeth as if you park underneath the trees, you get the shade but also a possibility of bird crap all over your car, and by the looks of things the birds here eat laxatives for breakfast, lunch and dinner
